For most of my life, my hair was braided.
That was part of my religious beliefs growing up.
So people probably assumed I just preferred it that way.
But the truth is…
those braids also meant I didn’t have to face how much I struggled with my hair.
Because when it wasn’t braided, I didn’t love it.
It was frizzy.
Dry.
Fluffy in a way that never looked smooth or put together.
The split ends seemed endless.
No matter what I tried, it always felt like my hair had a mind of its own.
So the braid became comfortable.
It was simple.
Predictable.
And honestly… it hid a lot.
But over time things started to change.
I started paying attention to my scalp.
To what my hair actually needed instead of just trying to control it.
And slowly, my hair started changing too.
Now it feels softer.
Smoother.
Way less frizzy.
The split ends are finally under control.
And for the first time in my life, my hair actually feels easy to manage.
Not perfect.
Just… healthy.
And that’s something I never thought I’d say about my hair.
If you’ve ever felt like your hair was just naturally frizzy, dry, or impossible to smooth…
I understand that feeling.
Comment “HAIR” and I’ll share what’s been helping mine so much 💛
Living with naturally frizzy and dry hair can feel like a daily battle. For years, I hid behind braids—not only as a cultural or religious practice but also as a protective shield against hair I didn’t feel comfortable with. Frizz, dryness, and endless split ends made my hair feel like it had a mind of its own, and no product or routine seemed to help. My journey toward healthier hair began when I shifted focus from merely styling or controlling my hair to understanding and caring for my scalp's health. Paying close attention to the scalp's condition is a game changer. A healthy scalp creates the perfect environment for strong, nourished hair growth. I started incorporating gentle scalp massages during washing to stimulate circulation and used moisturizing yet lightweight products designed for scalp health. Avoiding harsh shampoos that strip natural oils was essential, as dryness often made my frizz worse. Moreover, replacing the old habit of heavy braiding with more frequent hair breaks allowed my hair to breathe and repair itself. I experimented with protective hairstyles that didn't pull too tightly or cause tension, which helped minimize breakage. A consistent moisturizing routine became crucial. I incorporated leave-in conditioners and natural oils, like argan and jojoba, to seal moisture without weighing the hair down. Lastly, trimming split ends regularly prevented damage from traveling up the hair shaft. This transformation is a testament to patience and listening to what your hair truly needs rather than covering up its struggles. If you feel trapped by uncontrollable, frizzy hair, focusing on your scalp's health and adjusting your hair care habits can make a remarkable difference. I encourage anyone facing similar issues to explore these approaches and be kind to their hair through each step of the process.
