Products that saved my skin

People don’t believe when I say my skin was so textured and painful it kept me from going out and doing things.

I was afraid of people pointing out my acne and nothing covered it due to how textured it was, under makeup it looked 100x worse and was so dry my makeup basically flaked off. I still have some scars to work on but it’s a huge improvement. I tried dozens of different treatments and nothing worked, or worked for like a week and my skin went back to being textured and broken out. I even stopped wearing moisturizer at one point because every one I tried made my acne worse (please don’t do that- use moisturizer! Just find one that doesn’t clog pores!!)

** everyone’s skin is different ! What worked for a lot of people didn’t work for me and that’s ok!(: what works for me might not work for you but I wanted to share the things that made me more confident in my own skin.

Acne or not you are BEAUTIFUL and I wish someone would have told me that a year ago. I’m so sad I missed out on things due to something I couldn’t control.

... Read moreNavigating the world of skincare, especially when dealing with persistent acne, can feel incredibly overwhelming. Like many, I've scrolled through countless 'acne TikTok girl' routines, hoping to find that one magic solution. While social media can offer a sense of community and quick tips, it also presents a flood of information, some helpful, some not so much. My own journey with textured, painful, and inflamed skin led me down many rabbit holes, trying dozens of different treatments with fleeting results. It felt like a constant battle, impacting my confidence and even keeping me from enjoying social activities. What truly made a difference for me wasn't just a single product, but understanding the science behind effective ingredients, particularly topical retinoids. The Effaclar Adapalene Gel 0.1% Acne Treatment, which I lovingly call my 'holy grail product,' was a total game-changer. If you're considering a topical retinoid, it's crucial to introduce it slowly. I started by using a pea-sized amount just two to three times a week at night, after cleansing and before moisturizing, gradually increasing frequency as my skin adjusted. Expect some initial redness, dryness, or a bit of purging – it's a common part of the process as the retinoid encourages cell turnover and brings underlying congestion to the surface. Patience is key! Using a topical retinoid significantly helps with 'painful, under the skin' acne and reduces inflammation, but it can also lead to dryness. This is where a good hydrating serum becomes indispensable. I found the La Roche-Posay Hyalu B5 Serum to be incredibly effective. Its hydrating, non-comedogenic formula helped soothe my skin, lock in moisture, and counteract the drying effects of the retinoid. This combination was vital, especially since I'd previously made the mistake of skipping moisturizer altogether, thinking it would make my acne worse. Learning to hydrate properly while treating acne was a huge breakthrough. Consistency is the secret sauce. Seeing those 'before and after photos' showcasing 'scars are faded' and 'no active breakouts currently' wasn't an overnight miracle. It was a result of diligently sticking to my routine, protecting my skin from the sun (non-negotiable when using retinoids!), and listening to what my skin needed. While everyone's skin is unique and what worked for me might not be your exact solution, understanding the power of a topical retinoid combined with proper hydration can be a significant step toward achieving clearer, glowy skin and fading those lingering scars. Don't give up on finding what makes you feel confident in your own skin!
