My dogs eat better than I do

Hey fellow dog parents! We all want the best for our furry friends, and sometimes, plain old kibble just doesn't feel like enough, right? I've been there, staring at my pups' bowls, wondering how to make their meals even more irresistible and packed with goodness. That's why I started experimenting with healthy additions, especially focusing on easy-to-find ingredients like eggs and other beneficial toppers. Let's talk about eggs first, since that's a common search! They're a fantastic source of protein, vitamins (like A, D, E, and B12), and minerals for dogs. When I prepare eggs for my dogs, I usually scramble them or hard-boil them, then chop them up and mix them right into their kibble. It's a game-changer for picky eaters and adds a wonderful nutritional boost. Some people even just add a raw egg yolk for extra healthy fats and vitamins, but if you do that, make sure your dog tolerates it well and you're confident about the egg source. But the fun doesn't stop at eggs! My mission has been to create a balanced, varied diet for my large breed dogs, Zeus and Hades, complementing their high-quality kibble. Here are some of my other favorite additions that have made a huge difference: Freeze-Dried Quail Egg Yolks: These are amazing! I found some that are high in protein and super beneficial for eyes, skin, coat, and gut health. I just sprinkle them over their food – easy peasy and they love the crunch. Freeze-Dried Chicken Hearts: These little powerhouses are fantastic for heart health and provide essential iron, zinc, and B vitamins. They're a great natural treat or a small addition to their meal for an extra nutrient kick. Bone Broth Powder: This is a staple in our house, especially for my growing pups. It promotes joint health, boosts the immune system, and seriously makes food more appealing for those days when they're a bit more finicky. I just mix a scoop with warm water and pour it over their kibble. Salmon Oil: For that shiny coat and overall well-being, salmon oil is a must. It's packed with Omega-3 Fatty Acids, EPA, and DHA, which are great for skin, coat, heart health, eyes, and muscles. A few pumps directly onto their food does the trick. Muscle Support Tablets: Since Zeus and Hades are large breeds, I also use muscle support tablets. These help them gain and maintain weight in the right places and provide extra joint support as they grow. Always wise to chat with your vet about supplements like this, especially for growing pups! Beef-Flavored Sprinkles: Sometimes, I just want to make their meal extra special or encourage them to eat when they're not super hungry. These protein-rich sprinkles add a burst of flavor that my dogs can't resist. Dog-Safe Peanut Butter: While not a daily meal addition, I always have dog-safe peanut butter on hand for enrichment toys like kongs. It's a great way to keep them occupied and happy, just make sure it's xylitol-free! When introducing any new food, I always go slow, starting with small amounts to make sure it agrees with their tummies. It's all about finding what works best for your dog and making mealtime a joyful, nutritious experience. Seeing my pups thrive and enjoy their meals with these additions makes all the effort worth it!
