It wasn't just about acknowledging pain; it was about actively seeking out “healing skills” that could help me process it and move forward. When I first started, I wondered, "if I use my healing skills, what may I truly achieve?" It felt like a leap of faith, but the transformation has been incredible. One of the most profound “healing skills” I've developed through therapy is emotional regulation. Before, I'd often feel overwhelmed by anger or sadness, letting grudges fester and trust issues dictate my reactions. Therapy taught me practical techniques like grounding exercises and cognitive reframing. Instead of letting intrusive thoughts spiral, I learned to pause, identify the emotion, and challenge negative thought patterns. For anyone starting their own "self healing journey," understanding that your emotions are valid but don't have to control you is a game-changer. Another crucial skill is self-compassion. For years, I was my own harshest critic. Forgiveness wasn't just about forgiving others, but about extending grace to myself. My therapist helped me see that past mistakes were learning opportunities, not badges of shame. This shift in perspective is a powerful tool. You may find that once you start treating yourself with kindness, your capacity for empathy towards others grows exponentially. It's a fundamental part of building healthier relationships, both with yourself and your loved ones. I also learned the importance of setting boundaries. This was tough, especially when trying to balance my roles as a mother and wife. Initially, I felt guilty saying no, fearing I’d disappoint people. But therapy helped me understand that boundaries are acts of self-preservation, not rejection. They protect my energy and mental well-being, allowing me to be more present and effective in the roles that truly matter. If you use this “healing skill,” you may notice a significant reduction in feelings of resentment and burnout. The "self healing journey" isn't linear. There are days when old patterns resurface, or new challenges arise. But the beauty of having these “healing skills” is knowing I have a toolkit to navigate them. It's about consistent effort and acknowledging progress, no matter how small. For anyone feeling stuck, remember that seeking professional help is a sign of strength, not weakness. It's an investment in your future self. What you may gain is a life lived with more authenticity, peace, and joy. It's truly "THE START OF MY SELF HEALING JOURNEY" that has changed everything for me.
