2 cups chocolate chips
Extra:
Chocolate chunk for topping
Directions :
➡️ Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
➡️ In a large bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy.
➡️ Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.
➡️ In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
➡️ Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
➡️ Fold in the chocolate chips gently, being careful not to overmix.
➡️ Drop rounded spoonfuls of the cookie dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them out as they will spread.
*If adding extra chocolate chunk:
gently press onto the top of each cookie.
➡️ Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges turn a lovely golden brown.
➡️ Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
Baking chocolate chip cookies at home is always a rewarding experience, and tweaking the recipe can make it uniquely your own. One tip I've found helpful is to chill the cookie dough before baking. Refrigerating the dough for at least 30 minutes helps prevent excessive spreading during baking and results in chewier, thicker cookies. Another trick to enhance flavor is using a mix of both brown and white sugar, as this recipe suggests, because the brown sugar adds moisture and a slight caramel taste. Adding vanilla extract is essential, but you can experiment with a splash of almond extract for a subtle nutty flavor. When folding in the chocolate chips, be gentle to avoid overmixing the dough; this keeps the cookies tender. Using semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips lets you control the sweetness balance, and topping each cookie with a chocolate chunk after spooning onto the baking sheet adds a luxurious melty finish. Finally, paying close attention to the oven time is important. Baking at 350°F for 10 to 12 minutes usually produces cookies with golden edges and soft centers, but keep an eye on your first batch, as oven temperatures may vary. Letting the cookies cool slightly on the sheet before transferring to racks ensures they set perfectly. These simple steps and little adjustments can elevate your chocolate chip cookies, making them irresistibly delicious every time.
