Use this for Hyperpigmentation (Master Esthetician)
Dark spots/Hyperpigmentation keep coming back? Lightening them isn’t enough.
Most dark spot products focus on fading existing pigmentation, but if you don’t help slow new melanin production, those spots can darken again when you’re back in the sun—even if you’re wearing SPF.
It helps reduce excess melanin production while also brightening the skin, making it a great partner to nighttime actives like tretinoin, AHAs, or retinol.
And don’t let the word “acid” scare you. Azelaic acid is generally well tolerated, rosacea-friendly, and suitable for many people with sensitive skin.
There are only a couple of azelaic acid products I recommend, and they're linked in my Beacons. The reason is that many brands add extra ingredients like salicylic acid or niacinamide, which can irritate your skin when used alongside a dark spot routine. That's why I prefer products that contain only azelaic acid.
If you’re new to it, start slow:
• Use it 2 days per week in the morning
• Monitor how your skin responds
• Gradually increase frequency as tolerated
This is especially important if you’re already using active ingredients at night, since they can make your skin more reactive.
Bonus: Azelaic acid can also be used on its own as a brightening ingredient if your skin doesn’t tolerate stronger actives.
