Surviving college courses!

I struggled a lot in my courses my first semester of college! During the second semester I have learned some tips and tricks to hopefully help you guys with your classes as well!

Tip 1 ~ GO TO CLASS

I cannot stress enough how important actually being in class is. Even if attendance isn’t mandatory, I still suggest showing up. A lot of professors may include things in lectures that are not posted online. Many of these things will be on exams. Recording your lectures will also be very beneficial! Especially if your professor moves very quickly through the course. Going to class will also help you create a better relationship with your professors.

Tip 2 ~ Form a relationship with your professors!!!

This will help in many different ways. Let’s say you forget to turn in an assignment one time and you need to ask your professor for an extension. They are more likely to give you that extension if they know you are a good student.

Tip 3 ~ Complete and turn in assignments ASAP

Turning in your assignments early will not only take the weight off of your shoulders but it will show your professors you are a good student who cares about the course. It is much less stressful when you don’t procrastinate!

Tip 4 ~ Study!

I’ve learned that majority of the exams you will have in college, you can’t just wing it! The course material will be difficult! The best part of being at a University is the amount of resources you will have. Go to your professors office hours, go to the academic learning center for tutoring, and use the other students in class to help you learn the material!

Tip 5 ~ FIND YOUR BALANCE

This was the biggest struggle for me! I got too caught up in the social scene and the freedom I had, that I wasn’t focused enough on classes. Being at a University is a lot of fun and I think everyone should enjoy it. BUT in order to enjoy the fun part of school, you actually have to do good in your classes. I think about it like this….. If I don’t get good grades in my classes, I’m going to flunk out which means I won’t be there AT ALL. That means I don’t get to see my friends and go out anymore.
