My Non-Negotiables as a UGC Creator 🎥

Here’s what I always require before accepting a project — I learned the hard way so you don’t have to 😅

📝 1. Contract in place.

I’ve had brands ask for multiple reshoots and endless edits — if there’s no clear limit in writing, it becomes unpaid overtime. Your contract should cover edit limits, timelines, and indemnification. Yes, it’s “just content,” but this is a business. Run it like one 🙌🏼

⏳ 2. MINIMUM 5–7 business days for delivery.

Once the product’s been delivered & the script is approved - I need time. I create for multiple clients at once, sometimes weather can really effect lighting quality, and of course time for actual creative energy.

📋 3. Clear brief + deliverables BEFORE I say yes.

I once accepted a project at a flat rate, then learned it had double the scenes and scripts. Now I ask for the full scope upfront — no surprises, and no “can you just…” moments later; make sure you're comfortable with it.

🚫 4. No exclusivity longer than 7 days.

I’m not an influencer tied to one brand — UGC is fast-paced. Locking me out of a full category kills future deals. If there’s exclusivity, it needs to be short or paid for — period.

These are mine — but I’m curious:

UGC creators, what are your non-negotiables? 👇🏼

We’ve all had to learn some of this the hard way 😅

So let’s share the things we won’t budge on — and help each other grow smarter in this space.

... Read moreAs a UGC creator, it's vital to set boundaries and establish your non-negotiables for a successful partnership with brands. Firstly, always demand a contract in place that clearly outlines the project's scope, including limits on edits, deadlines, and indemnification clauses. This protects you from unexpected demands and ensures you're not working unpaid overtime. Another key aspect is allowing sufficient time for project delivery—aim for at least 5 to 7 business days after script approval. This timeframe accounts for multiple clients and unforeseen circumstances like weather impacting production quality. Additionally, insist on receiving a detailed brief and a full list of deliverables before agreeing to a project. This prevents surprises later on and saves you from overcommitting to work that exceeds the original scope. Lastly, be wary of exclusivity clauses longer than seven days. UGC work thrives on diversity and flexibility, so urge brands to keep exclusivity short or compensate you accordingly. By establishing these non-negotiables, UGC creators can navigate their careers more effectively, leading to better projects and partnerships.
