Something that really helps me as a stay at home mom of a 3.5 year old and 5 month old is having a routine in the morning. It doesn’t have to be complicated! Just a ritual of certain things that I do to have a smooth morning with two littles! It helps a lot that my toddler knows what to expect every morning. Of course not every day is the same and the time stamps are different every day but here is an example of our morning routine:
7:00am - wake up & make beds, get toddler situated before the baby gets up
7:10am - the baby is awake and we head into the kitchen and immediately open the windows to let in the cooler morning air this time
7:15am - I need coffee asap! My favorite morning ritual
7:30am - we head into toddler’s bedroom to play together
8:00am - usually when we are getting hungry and begin making breakfast
8:15am - sit down and eat together every morning. Sometimes I clean up right after breakfast, sometimes I don’t
8:45am - the baby is ready for his first nap of the day
That’s a typical morning around here! What does your morning look like?

One essential practice is starting your morning by waking up around 7:00am and making the beds. This small task instantly sets a productive tone and helps your toddler feel secure knowing what to expect next.
After getting your toddler settled, it's beneficial to open the windows around 7:10am to let in the fresh, cooler morning air. This natural ventilation not only refreshes the space but also creates a calm environment for everyone. Many moms find that this ritual energizes the household and improves mood.
Next comes the cherished coffee time around 7:15am, which serves as a peaceful moment for mom to recharge. This ritual helps maintain your energy and mental clarity, crucial when tending to young children.
Around 7:30am, engaging in playtime with your toddler in their bedroom encourages bonding and developmental growth. Interactive play helps toddlers feel nurtured and mentally stimulated.
By 8:00am, hunger typically emerges, so preparing breakfast becomes the next focus. Sharing a meal together at about 8:15am not only nourishes bodies but also strengthens family connections. Cleaning up after breakfast may be flexible depending on the day's flow, allowing for adaptability.
Finally, respecting your baby’s first nap of the day around 8:45am gives both you and your toddler scheduled downtime. This rest period offers an important break for mom to relax or focus on tasks.
Incorporating these steps into your morning creates a rhythm that reduces stress, supports your children’s needs, and elevates the overall daily experience. Remember, every family’s needs differ, so adjust timings and activities to what feels best for your household. Consistency combined with flexibility is key to a successful and joyful SAHM morning routine.
