THINGS IN OUR PLAYROOM

Our playroom is a combination of my toddlers bedroom/playroom so it’s important to me that it has some sort of organization that makes sense to us! Key things to help during playtime and clean up time are:

1. A shelf with bins to keep smaller toys (like small cars, magnet tiles, figurines) in their own place and added bonus get bins with lids to hide them

2. A cute bookshelf that is accessible to my toddler so he can pick out books himself to look at or bring to me to read with him

3. A large storage chest for the big toys! I love the way this one looks with his bedroom. We keep the bigger toys like trucks and cars stored in here

4. Our playmat is super padded and also firm enough for stacking blocks and racing cars. It’s also very big and so great for my baby’s tummy time practice so both of my kids can enjoy it at the same time.

5. Baskets, everywhere & for anything! We love using baskets to store the random stuff but keep it organized. In this corner we have all of the stuffed animals 🧸

One of the key components is having shelves paired with bins that include lids to store smaller toys like magnet tiles, figurines, and small cars. This setup not only helps in quick cleanup but also teaches toddlers about organization and responsibility. Including a bookshelf at toddler height encourages independent book choice, fostering early literacy and bonding during reading time. Books that are easy to reach invite your child to develop a love for stories and learning. Large toys, such as trucks and bigger cars, can clutter a room if not properly stored. A spacious storage chest that complements the bedroom décor provides an attractive and practical solution to keep these items out of sight yet easily accessible. This type of storage also helps to visually balance the playroom space. The playmat mentioned, which is both padded and firm, serves multiple functions: it's a soft surface for tummy time, a sturdy base for building blocks, and a racetrack for toy cars. Its size accommodates multiple children, encouraging cooperative play. Baskets are versatile storage options for odd-shaped or miscellaneous toys, like stuffed animals. They can be placed strategically throughout the playroom to offer quick access and effortless tidying. Labeling baskets or using different colors can also reinforce organizational skills in toddlers. When designing a playroom, consider zones for different activities – reading, imaginative play, and motor skill development – to help structure your toddler’s daily routine. Prioritizing both aesthetics and function ensures a welcoming space that adapts as your child grows. In essence, combining these elements—shelves with bins, accessible bookshelves, large toy chests, multifunctional playmats, and lots of baskets—not only keeps the playroom neat but also supports your child's development and independence. These tips help transform a shared toddler bedroom and play area into a harmonious, stimulating environment.
