Introducing my dad
We had a rat problem a few years back. traps didn't work, poison (which we never use) didn't help, pulling food didnt work (they started attacking birds after that, and the exterminator couldn't get rid of them. We ended up moving all of the birds and cue my veteran dad coming in to solve the problem. Norway rats are large and can be detrimental to flocks. They can wipe out bantam breeds and grow outs. I really don't recommend this method but it worked.
Dealing with rat infestations can be a daunting task for any household. Norway rats, known for their large size and aggressive nature, pose significant threats not only to properties but also to local wildlife such as birds. When conventional methods like traps and poisons fail, it’s crucial to consider other pest control solutions. It is often advised that homeowners take preventive measures, including securing food sources and eliminating nesting areas, instead of resorting to extreme measures. In addition to preventive steps, enlisting the help of a pest control professional can provide insights into managing these pests safely and effectively. It's essential to choose strategies that protect both the environment and non-target animals, which can sometimes fall victim to harmful pest control methods. Understanding the behavior of Norway rats and their detrimental effects on small bird breeds highlights the need for responsible pest management practices. As you evaluate your own pest control options, consider the potential long-term implications and always prioritize humane solutions.
