... Read moreOh my gosh, you guys HAVE to hear about my recent trip to Maro Village! 😍 I stumbled upon this absolute gem just a stone's throw from Nerja, and it completely stole my heart. I was lucky enough to be there during one of their local fiestas, and let me tell you, it was an experience I'll never forget. From the moment I stepped into the village, the air was buzzing with excitement. Little Maro, with its whitewashed houses and narrow, winding streets, transformed into a riot of color and sound. Imagine vibrant decorations strung across every alleyway, the scent of jasmine mingling with delicious aromas wafting from makeshift food stalls, and the infectious rhythm of Spanish music filling the air – it was pure magic! ✨ I spent my evenings soaking it all in. The main square became the heart of the celebration, with live bands playing traditional flamenco and modern Spanish pop. Everyone, from tiny toddlers to wise abuelos, was up and dancing. I even plucked up the courage to join in a few times, and the locals were so welcoming and patient with my two left feet! It felt less like a tourist event and more like being invited into a huge family gathering. And the food! Oh, the food! 🤤 Forget fancy restaurants, the best eats were right there on the streets. I indulged in plate after plate of freshly fried 'pescaíto frito' (fried fish), savory 'gambas al pil-pil' (garlic prawns), and, of course, endless tapas. Each bite was bursting with authentic Andalusian flavors. And to wash it all down? A crisp, cold glass of local wine or a refreshing 'tinto de verano'. It was culinary heaven! During the day, before the evening festivities kicked off, I explored a bit more of Maro. It's such a picturesque village, offering stunning views of the Mediterranean. Plus, it's famous for the incredible Nerja Caves, which are just a short walk away. I took a morning to explore them, and it was breathtaking – a fantastic counterpoint to the lively nights. The beaches nearby, especially Maro Beach, are also absolutely gorgeous and much quieter than some of the more well-known spots. If you're thinking of visiting Nerja, please, please, PLEASE make a point to check out Maro Village, especially if there's a fiesta happening. It's truly a hidden treasure that offers a glimpse into authentic Spanish culture. My top tip? Try to time your visit with one of their annual celebrations, like the Chestnut and Sweet Potato Festival in October or the San Antón Abad festival in January. You can usually find the dates online with a quick search. Book accommodation a bit in advance, as places fill up. And don't be shy – immerse yourself in the local spirit! You won't regret it. It was honestly one of the highlights of my entire trip to Spain!
