Caminando a Portofino
Walking from Santa Margherita to Portofino offers an incredible way to experience the natural beauty and charm of the Italian Riviera. One key tip is to take the mountain detour route, which not only helps you avoid heavy traffic and the midday sun but also provides spectacular views along the way. The hike involves some challenging uphill and downhill sections. While descending can be fairly easy, the uphill stretches require a slower pace and frequent breaks, especially if you are not accustomed to such physical activity. It’s completely normal to feel out of breath during the climbs, so managing your energy is important to fully enjoy this adventure. Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes with good grip, bring plenty of water, and protect yourself with sunscreen or a hat as parts of the trail are exposed. This trek also allows you to connect with nature, passing through Mediterranean vegetation and enjoying fresh mountain air. Personally, this walk was a rewarding challenge—although tiring, reaching Portofino by foot gave me a sense of accomplishment and a closer connection to the landscape that driving simply cannot offer. For those visiting the area, this route is a perfect blend of exercise, sightseeing, and cultural exploration, ideal for travelers who love walking tours and want to experience authentic Italy beyond the usual tourist spots.
