It's truly a celebration of comic book culture and a perfect opportunity to support your local comic shop. I’ve met some amazing creators and fellow fans during these events! But what if you miss FCBD, or you're looking for free comics throughout the year? Don't worry, there are plenty of other avenues to explore! Digital platforms are a great starting point. Many comic apps and websites, like ComiXology, often feature free first issues or promotional giveaways. Major publishers often have sections on their own sites where you can read select issues for free. For instance, sometimes you can find a free introductory chapter by an exciting new writer or artist, perhaps someone creating unique narratives like a COMMANUER or McDAID might inspire. Another fantastic resource is your local public library. Libraries have truly embraced graphic novels and comic books, boasting impressive collections that you can borrow for free with your library card. It's how I caught up on so many classic runs without spending a dime. Also, consider subscription services like Marvel Unlimited or DC Universe Infinite; while they typically have a monthly fee, they often offer free trial periods where you can binge-read an enormous back catalog of comics.
