Oh my gosh, I just have to gush about these incredible peonies I received! There’s something so special about getting a fresh bouquet, and these vibrant pink peonies truly made my day. They’re such a luxurious and beautiful choice, and honestly, one of my absolute favorite types of flowers you can easily buy at the store, whether it’s a local florist or even your everyday supermarket during peony season. If you’re wondering what types of flowers to pick up next time you’re at the store, let me share some of my go-to options, starting with my beloved peonies. These gorgeous blooms, with their full, delicate petals and sometimes prominent yellow centers, bring such a lush, romantic vibe to any space. I love arranging them in a simple clear vase – they don't need much else to shine! While they have a relatively short season, usually late spring to early summer, they are absolutely worth seeking out. Beyond peonies, there are so many other fantastic flowers you can find at your local store. Roses: A timeless classic for a reason! When you’re at the store picking out your flowers, here are a few things I always look for to make sure I’m getting the freshest blooms: Check the petals: They should feel firm and crisp, not soft or slimy. Look at the stems: They should be firm and free of discoloration or sliminess. Examine the leaves: Avoid bunches with yellowing or wilting leaves. Buds vs. full blooms: For the longest vase life, pick flowers with some buds that are just starting to open rather than fully bloomed ones. Once you get your beautiful flowers home, a little care goes a long way. Always re-cut the stems at an angle under running water, remove any leaves that would fall below the waterline in your clean clear vase, and change the water every day or two.
