Disclaimer before I start

- the way I looked before is not inherently bad or ugly

- I do not hate my past self and I donโ€™t encourage anyone to hate their past selves, life is about experimenting!

These are all the things I did in the past few years to become my better self and โ€˜glow upโ€™

- skincare: I got my skincare routine down to a science. in 2021 I just followed whatever was trendy and I had no clue what my skin type was. now I know better and actually researched my skin type, good ingredients for it and good products.

- makeup: I used to experiment with makeup a lot and at the time I was happy with the way it looked. But eventually I found that the way I did my makeup didnโ€™t really suit me as well as I thought. Once again I was following trends, I copy and pasted what was popular onto my face. I finally found products good for my skin type, and ways to do my eye makeup that suits the shape better.

- exercise: i used to be super into yoga and mat exercises but that all went downhill in 2020. I stopped exercising and eventually just began to hate the way I felt, and hated how stiff my body had become. This year in 2024 Iโ€™m finally getting back on track and I feel much better and my joints feel more flexible again.

- clothing: I have always liked baggy clothes and I still wear them often, but nowadays I find clothes that actually look flattering even if they are baggy instead of just buying whatever oversized sweater that will cover me the most. I used to be ashamed of my body shape, but Iโ€™ve come to embrace it and dress with it not against it.

- hair: the big one for me is hair. For some reason back then I was insistent on keeping it in a woodcut with full bangs when my face shape just doesnโ€™t suit that look in my opinion. The color was also much too cool toned for me. Iโ€™ve found that I look best in warm hair colors, and I prefer my hair long with wispy bangs or side bangs.

- mentality: back then I was so set on being โ€˜differentโ€™ I always had a victim complex and I always held myself back. Iโ€™ve gained more confidence and feel more secure in myself and no longer feel the need to always be โ€˜out thereโ€™ with my look or purely copy other people because I think it will make me feel better.

Many people often jump on social media trends without understanding what truly works for their individual skin types or body shapes. This shift requires introspection and knowledge. Skincare is foundational; using the right products can significantly enhance skin health. Additionally, makeup should be a tool for self-expression rather than a mask; find styles that enhance rather than hide features. Regular physical activity not only improves physical appearance but also boosts mental well-being. Choosing flattering clothing can elevate self-image, while hairstyles that complement face shapes can bring out natural beauty. Most importantly, cultivating a positive mentality is essential. Accepting oneself, mistakes, and growth leads to a more fulfilling journey toward how we present ourselves to the world. Transformation journeys are personal, and they can inspire others to embrace their own unique paths to self-improvement and happiness.
