Versatility Dance skills
Showing I can do any style but make it fit my style my sauce my swag #swag #duet #VikWhite #mastercrosby #freestyledance
Creating a truly engaging and dynamic dance piece is always my goal, and this recent duet with Vik White was an exhilarating journey into just that. When we talk about dance, especially a freestyle duet, it’s much more than just movement; it’s a living, breathing dialogue between two artists, fueled by the music. From the moment the beats drop, the music becomes our shared language. It’s not just a background track; it’s the pulse that guides every step, every gesture, every spontaneous choice. For me, making a performance truly dynamic means feeling the music so deeply that it almost moves through you, translating its nuances into visible energy. It’s about not just hitting the beat, but riding the wave of the rhythm, allowing yourself to be surprised by your own body’s response to the sound. The idea of a 'dance dialogue' really came to life during this collaboration. When you’re freestyling, especially with someone as powerful as Vik White, it’s like an unspoken conversation. One person throws out a movement, and the other responds, elaborates, or even challenges it. There's a constant push and pull, a call and answer that makes the entire sequence feel alive and unpredictable. It's about being present, listening to your partner's body language, and letting the interaction build organically. This kind of interplay is what elevates a performance from a series of steps to a truly captivating experience for both the dancers and the audience. Working with Vik White was particularly inspiring because of his incredible command of Krump. The OCR recognized 'Vik White Krump is', and that really captures a crucial element. Krump brought an intense, raw, and expressive layer to our duet. It’s a style known for its sharp, aggressive, and highly emotive movements – bursts, jabs, and chest pops that demand your full attention. Incorporating that powerful energy into our freestyle, while still maintaining my own 'sauce' and 'swag', was a fantastic challenge. It forced me to adapt, to find new ways to fuse my personal style with the intensity of Krump, creating something truly unique and versatile. Versatility, for me, isn't just about being able to do different styles; it's about making each style your own. It's about taking elements from various dance forms, whether it's hip-hop, contemporary, or Krump, and filtering them through your unique perspective. It’s that blend that creates your signature. Every dancer has their own 'swag' – that intangible quality that makes their movement distinct. In a duet, this becomes even more fascinating, as two individual 'swags' intertwine and create something entirely new, yet rooted in each dancer's core identity. It’s a constant learning process, pushing boundaries and discovering new facets of your own movement vocabulary while connecting with another artist.
