Tell me why

... Read moreIn my personal journey, I've often wondered why something as superficial as skin color still plays such a significant role in dividing people. Despite all of us sharing fundamental experiences—breathing the same air, sleeping under the same moon, and coming from shared ancestors—the world continues to draw boundaries based on race. This notion feels both arbitrary and unjust, especially when you consider how history and society have constructed these divisions for power and control. From my experience, engaging in honest conversations about race and identity is crucial for breaking down these barriers. I've noticed that when people share their stories and listen with empathy, misunderstandings diminish, and common ground emerges. These dialogues help reveal that beneath our diverse appearances, we have a shared humanity rooted in similar emotions, needs, and dreams. Additionally, educating ourselves about the origins of racial constructs is eye-opening. Many of these ideas were artificially created or exaggerated during colonial times and have been perpetuated through generations. Recognizing this can empower us to challenge unfair societal rules and push for equality. On a practical level, promoting inclusivity in communities—whether through cultural events, diverse educational materials, or supportive policies—fosters a sense of belonging. It’s important for all of us to reflect on how unconscious biases might influence our actions and to actively work towards creating spaces where everyone feels valued regardless of skin color. Ultimately, asking “Who made that rule?” about racial separation is a step toward dismantling it. By embracing our commonalities and respecting our differences, we can build a more just and compassionate world. This perspective not only enriches personal growth but also contributes to societal progress in overcoming prejudice.
