The school lunch saga
Little miss munch-munch started school last Tuesday. I had hoped that upon entering 1st grade her tendency to not eat her lunches would be a thing of the past.
I was quickly disabused of that notion after her first day. I had packed a regular lunchable, which she normally devours. No such luck, maybe it was the jitters from it being the first day back at school after a summer away. Maybe I had packed the wrong kind of lunchable. Maybe, maybe, maybe…
That night, I took her shopping and told her that she needed to pick out only the things that she wanted to eat in her lunch. Normally, this type of a situation proves successful, especially if I give her the nutritional benefits and explain to her what she is going to get out of each type of food specifically. For example, if it’s a protein, I explain to her how proteins are a quick fuel source, and they also help your muscles grow. She loves that insight and can be convinced to eat afterwards.
That night I decided to create a handmade lunch bowl using all of the things that she had picked out. That meal was mostly uneaten and each lunch since then has been similarly dissected and barely touched.
One of the things that I have been doing since last year is including little notes inside of her lunchbox, she has to have somebody read them to her since she’s not quite at that point yet, but it’s always fun to see her reaction when she comes home from school . Yesterday‘s note was you make the best faces and what that is referring to is all of her mischievous and quirky and adorable faces that she makes constantly and I told her maybe a week or two ago that she makes the best faces and I just wanted to remind her of that and when she got home, she was so excited and was just so happy.
My goal is to do a weekly summary of the lunches that I’ve tried and to lead you along on the school lunch saga .
