I added Obelisk the Tormentor fro Yugioh to DnD
I was just really bored. So I decided to do this and essentially, this is like the ultimate absolute boss, so like if your party was able to defeat the tar, ask and was able to defeat time and you're trying to figure out a way to like, give them a really hard boss fight. This is the boss as it has insane attack. Power, insanely high hit points, it can heal itself, and it has a lot of resistances. Deals multiple types of damage, so even if a player has a resistance or an immunity to a certain type of damage, it's guaranteed that they're still going to get affected by another type of damage from his attacks, not to mention he can summon other monsters to help him fight for all the way from a Drake, to a Tarrasque
When adapting iconic characters like Obelisk the Tormentor from Yu-Gi-Oh into Dungeons & Dragons, it's vital to balance lore authenticity with gameplay mechanics. I've found that giving Obelisk gargantuan celestial traits with a Challenge Rating (CR) of 30 allows it to stand as a monumental threat, challenging high-level player parties effectively. One of the most striking features is Obelisk’s ability to deal multiple damage types simultaneously, which ensures players can't just rely on a single resistance or immunity to survive its attacks. This forces creative strategizing and teamwork to overcome. Its healing power adds an endurance aspect to the fight, prolonging the battle and increasing tension. The addition of legendary actions such as Divine Blast and Divine Heal gives Obelisk dynamic combat options, while the capability to summon powerful monsters—from adult drakes to a mighty Tarrasque—introduces unpredictable elements and escalates combat intensity. These summons act autonomously but fight alongside Obelisk, amplifying the challenge. In my experience running this boss, environmental variety plays a role too. Obelisk’s design accounts for diverse habitats, including arctic, urban, elemental planes, and abyssal realms, which lets Dungeon Masters place this foe in almost any campaign setting seamlessly. To make the encounter more immersive, I encourage incorporating descriptive narrative elements about Obelisk’s celestial demeanor and overwhelming presence, inspiring awe and fear. Also, consider scaling certain abilities based on your group’s size and skill level to maintain a balanced but epic showdown. Ultimately, integrating Obelisk the Tormentor into a DnD game transforms the ordinary boss fight into an unforgettable campaign climax requiring players to think strategically, adapt quickly, and collaborate effectively to survive.
