Taking the plunge and doing a big chop was one of the scariest but most liberating hair decisions I've ever made. The idea of cutting off all my relaxed or damaged hair to embrace my natural texture felt huge, and honestly, a little overwhelming at first. I remember looking at my hair right after cutting it off, feeling a mix of excitement and a tiny bit of panic, wondering what my growth journey would truly look like. Fast forward 18 months, and I'm thrilled to share how much my hair has transformed! My goal for this growth period was not just length, but also health. In the initial months, scalp care was absolutely key. I focused on gentle cleansing, regular moisturizing, and scalp massages to stimulate blood flow. Transitioning from my 'before' look to seeing my natural curls define themselves was a gradual process, but incredibly rewarding. I learned that patience is truly a virtue when it comes to natural hair growth. As my hair started growing out past the initial TWA (Teeny Weeny Afro) stage, I began experimenting with different protective styles like twists and braids to minimize manipulation and breakage. Hydration became my best friend – I swear by the LOC (Liquid, Oil, Cream) method and deep conditioning treatments at least once a week. Incorporating natural hair oils, like castor oil or jojoba oil, into my routine helped keep my strands soft, seal in moisture, and create a healthy environment for growth. Finding the right blend of products that worked for my specific curl type made a huge difference in managing frizz and retaining length. Reaching the 18-month mark has been a significant milestone. My hair now has considerable length and density, far beyond what I imagined when I first started. The 'after' is truly a testament to consistent care and understanding what my hair needs. I've seen my curl pattern evolve and become more defined, and the overall health of my hair has improved drastically. It’s been amazing to watch my hair change so much since that initial cut 18 months ago.
