10 Day Ireland Itinerary

After my recent 10-day adventure across Ireland, I have so many extra tips I wish I knew before! First off, about that car rental: it truly is the best way to experience the country. Don't be intimidated by driving on the left; you get used to it quicker than you think. My advice? Opt for an automatic if you're not used to manual, and consider getting full insurance for peace of mind on those charming, narrower roads. Google Maps generally works well, but downloading offline maps saved me a few times in rural areas. The flexibility to stop for a photo with those iconic cows or pop into a quaint pub you spot is priceless. When planning your route for 10 days and 9 nights, flying into Shannon and out of Dublin, as I did, makes perfect sense to maximize your time. My journey took me through some of Ireland's most breathtaking landscapes, hitting spots that truly define the Emerald Isle. For Galway, I absolutely loved the vibrant atmosphere. If you're looking for a great stay, places similar to The Dean offer a chic experience. And for foodies, don't miss out on trying fresh seafood, perhaps at a spot like The Cottage or even a local Oyster Farm – it’s a real treat! The city is a fantastic base for exploring the west. Moving south towards Killarney, the drive itself is part of the experience. Killarney National Park is stunning, and a drive along the Ring of Kerry is an absolute must-do. The views are just spectacular, especially on a clear day. I recommend staying somewhere cozy, like The Victoria, to fully immerse yourself in the town's charm. My next stop was Cork, a city with a fantastic culinary scene. I enjoyed exploring its streets and dining at places reminiscent of Max's Bistro. And if you're a whiskey fan, a visit to the Jameson Distillery is a fun and educational detour! For accommodations, think about somewhere stylish like The Montenotte for comfort after a day of exploring. Finally, Dublin for the last few nights. It's a bustling city with so much to offer. I explored iconic spots like Temple Bar (it’s touristy but a must-see for the atmosphere!) and enjoyed some incredible meals. The Seafood Cafe was a personal highlight for delicious fresh catches. For a comfortable stay, consider hotels similar to The Alex. Throughout my trip, I was often skirting parts of the famous Wild Atlantic Way, especially along the west coast near the Cliffs of Moher, which were, without a doubt, a highlight – the scale and beauty are truly awe-inspiring. Regarding summer Ireland weather, be prepared for anything! I packed layers, from rain gear to sunglasses, and was thankful for all of them. Even in summer, you can experience all four seasons in one day. Booking popular accommodations and car rentals in advance, especially during peak season, is a game-changer. Don't forget an international driving permit if your license isn't from an EU country, and always double-check local driving rules. Enjoy your Irish adventure!
