You don’t need 10 days in Iceland
I know so many people will tell you need a week to ten days to do the full ring road but, honestly you could save yourself the time and just do 5. You probably could do it in 4 if you just packed everything in. I personally think the best thing to do is spend a few nights in Reykjavik and a few nights in Vik and just do daytrips. I know people rent the camper vans but the gas is so expensive that it makes more sense to rent a smaller car and stay in Hotels. Personally I’d probably go to Vik first and drive right from the airport and stay at Hotel Kira. There isn’t a ton of options so I feel like it makes the most sense to go there and stay in the less nice hotel first then go splurge at The Edition in Reykjavik. There are obviously other options but those are my favorites. Now if you take any advice from this post please do yourself a favor and stay in the less nice hotel first. I made this mistake once and let’s just say it’s hard to appreciate an okay hotel after staying at a great one. Let me know in the comments if you think 5 days is enough in Iceland.

My 5-day Iceland adventure was truly unforgettable, proving you don't need weeks to experience its magic! Following my own advice, after landing, I headed straight for Vik. Hótel Kría was a perfect base for two nights, allowing me to fully explore the breathtaking South Coast. Waking up to the dramatic landscapes and then driving to places like Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls was incredible. Standing behind Seljalandsfoss, feeling the spray, was a bucket-list moment! From Vik, exploring the iconic black sand beaches like Reynisfjara was utterly mesmerizing. The powerful waves and the basalt columns create such a dramatic scene – just be mindful of sneaker waves! A short drive further, and I was at Diamond Beach, where glittering ice chunks from the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon wash up on the black sand. It felt like walking on a treasure trove. These day trips covered so many main hotspots without feeling rushed. After soaking in the South Coast's raw beauty, I returned to Reykjavik for my remaining nights, splurging a bit at The Reykjavik EDITION. From here, day trips to the Golden Circle were a breeze. My first stop was Thingvellir National Park, where I walked between two continental plates – talk about a unique experience! Then it was off to witness the explosive power of the Strokkur geyser at Geysir, and the majestic Gullfoss waterfall, a true force of nature. Beyond these major sights, Reykjavik itself offers so much. I loved exploring the colorful streets, visiting Hallgrímskirkja church for panoramic views, and trying some local seafood. The beauty of a 5-day trip is that you can truly immerse yourself in these key regions without feeling like you're constantly on the move for a full ring road journey. It’s perfect for savouring the moments. If you’re wondering what to visit in Iceland, I genuinely believe focusing on the Golden Circle and the South Coast from Reykjavik and Vik as bases gives you an incredible taste of the country's diverse landscapes. Don't forget to pack layers, no matter the season, and keep an eye on the weather – Iceland's a wild one! This focused approach made my trip not only memorable but also more manageable and budget-friendly, especially when considering gas prices for those day trips.
