Full tutorial on YouTube and Tik Tok ❤️
Hey everyone! I'm so excited to share my passion for making cheer bows with you. There’s something incredibly satisfying about creating a unique, custom bow that truly stands out. If you've ever wondered how to make a layered cheer bow that looks professional but is totally DIY, you’re in the right place! My goal is to show you just how simple and rewarding it can be to make a cheer bow. Why DIY? Beyond the cost savings, you get complete creative control. Pick perfect colors, textures, and add sparkle to match any uniform or personal style. It's a fantastic way to add a personal touch to game day or competitions. To make a cheer bow with two different ribbons, you'll need a few key supplies. Think of this as your primer for getting started! Grab two types of ribbon – I usually go for a wider base ribbon (around 3 inches) and a slightly narrower top ribbon (2.25 inches) in complementary colors or patterns. You'll also need sharp fabric scissors, a ruler or measuring tape, a hot glue gun (with clear glue sticks), a strong hair tie (pony elastic), and optionally, some fabric stiffener spray and a needle and thread for extra reinforcement. Let's Make a Layered Cheer Bow Together! Preparation is Key: Start by cutting your ribbons. For a standard layered bow, you'll need about 2.5 to 3 yards of your wider base ribbon and slightly less (around 2 to 2.5 yards) of your narrower top ribbon. If using fabric stiffener, lightly spray ribbons and let them dry. This helps the bow hold its shape beautifully. Creating the Base Loops: Take your wider ribbon. Fold it back and forth to create several loops. Make a loop to the right, then bring the ribbon back across the center and make another loop to the left. Continue this, ensuring each new loop is slightly shorter than the previous, creating a stacked effect. I usually aim for 4-6 loops on each side, depending on desired fullness. Secure the center temporarily with a clip. Adding the Top Layer: Now, take your narrower ribbon. Repeat the same looping process directly on top of your base loops. Be mindful to center it and ensure its loops are slightly smaller than the corresponding base loops, allowing the bottom color to peek through. This is where the magic of "two different ribbons" truly shines! Secure the center with another clip once you're happy with the arrangement. Securing the Center: This is crucial for a durable bow. Pinch all the ribbon layers tightly in the center. Using a strong thread, tightly wrap it around the pinched center several times. You can also use a small piece of the ribbon itself to wrap around and glue down for a neater finish. Apply a dab of hot glue to secure the wrapped thread. Fluff and Finish: Gently pull and adjust each loop to give your bow its full, beautiful shape. Once satisfied, hot glue the hair tie securely to the back of the bow's center. For a polished look, take a small strip of one of your ribbons, wrap it around the center where the hair tie is attached, and glue it down on the back. Trim any excess ribbon tails into a V-shape or diagonal cut for a professional edge. My Top Tips for Perfect Bows: Practice Makes Perfect: Don't get discouraged! Each one gets easier. Measure Twice, Cut Once: Precise measurements make a huge difference in symmetry. Heat Seal Edges: Use a lighter to quickly run along cut ribbon edges (carefully!) to prevent fraying. I hope this DIY cheer bows tutorial inspires you to try making your own! It’s such a fun and rewarding craft. I can't wait to see your creations!
