Make BAD ART with me 🖌️❌

Lolllllll she’s not that bad right? Right??🫠

I didn’t feel like finding a reference for the pose I had in mind so I tried to freestyle it and well look where that ended. I draw a lot of “bad art” in between my “good art” but I have a hard time showing it bc the art community can be really… spicy🌶️… and sometimes I don’t have the thick skin necessary for that. In fact my skin is very paper like; I will cry lol.

I have so many bad artworks it’s not even funny but I figured I’d share this one that I did today for any other artist out there like me that also find themselves drawing horrible things but too afraid to share it.

... Read moreYou know, my art journey is a constant rollercoaster, especially when it comes to anatomy. There are days I feel like I've finally cracked the code, and then there are days I attempt a dynamic kneeling figure and end up with a broke neck or a shoulder anatomy that defies all laws of physics! It's so easy to get discouraged and just scrap those "bad anatomy art" pieces. I used to hide them away, thinking they were proof of my inadequacy. But lately, I've been trying to shift my perspective. Instead of seeing them as failures, I now treat them as incredibly valuable learning tools. When I look back at a sketch where the proportions are off or the pose feels stiff, I try to analyze *why*. Did I rush? Did I truly understand the underlying structure? Often, I'll grab a reference after my initial freestyle attempt and compare. This process, though sometimes humbling, has been crucial for slowly improving. It's like having a personal art tutor pointing out exactly where I need to focus next. Speaking of those frustrating moments, creating "vent art" has become a secret weapon in my arsenal against creative blocks and self-criticism. There are times when I'm so stuck on a piece, pouring hours into it, only for it to feel completely wrong. The pressure to make something "good" can become overwhelming, turning art from a joy into a chore. In those moments, I step away from the main project and just… draw. No plans, no expectations, just letting whatever emotions I'm feeling spill onto the digital canvas. It's not about creating a masterpiece; it's about getting those feelings out. Sometimes it's anger at my own perceived lack of skill, sometimes it's pure exhaustion. The resulting red-line sketch might be messy, abstract, or even ugly, but the act itself is incredibly therapeutic. It helps me process the frustration, clear my head, and often, I return to my main piece with fresh eyes and renewed energy. It's a reminder that art can be for expression, not just perfection. And oh, the perfectionism! I sometimes joke that I have a serious "Art Virgo" complex, always striving for that flawless outcome, meticulously picking apart every single line. While attention to detail can be a great asset, it can also be the biggest obstacle to actually finishing a piece, let alone starting one. That constant internal critique can be paralyzing. I've learned that sometimes, the best thing to do is just *finish it*. Don't let the pursuit of perfection stop you from sharing your voice, even if your curly hair rendering isn't perfect or that bag isn't shaded just right. It's about progress, not perfection. I try to remind myself that every artist, no matter how skilled, has a mountain of "bad art" in their past. It's a testament to their dedication and growth. Embracing that journey, the messy parts, the sweater boot heels that look a bit off, is what truly makes us artists. It's about finding beauty in the process, not just the pristine final product.

I struggle a lot with anatomy and hands so usually I’ll get someone to pose for me or I’ll do the pose myself. I trace the basic shapes after so i know where everything is and then put my art style over those basic shapes.
