It's truly wild to think I'm already celebrating a year of tattooing as a 20-year-old! Every day in the studio feels like a dream, turning ideas into permanent art for some amazing people. I often get asked, 'How did you even start tattooing at such a young age?' and it’s a journey I’m always happy to share, especially for anyone else dreaming of becoming a tattoo artist. For me, it wasn't just about picking up a machine. It began with an intense passion for art and countless hours drawing. Then came the crucial step: finding an apprenticeship. This is absolutely key to learning tattooing safely and correctly. I spent months building a strong portfolio of my artwork – sketches, digital drawings, paintings – showcasing my versatility in different styles, from black and grey realism to vibrant traditional designs. It’s not just about being a great artist; it’s about proving you’re dedicated, teachable, and understand the responsibility that comes with tattooing. I remember practicing on fruits and artificial skins endlessly before I ever touched human skin. It’s all about earning trust and honing your craft under experienced guidance. My portfolio is my pride and joy, evolving with every single piece I create. It’s where I showcase the breadth of my work, from the intricate realism tattoos like the majestic bear standing in water with its reflection or the strikingly delicate rose tattoo blooming on someone's torso, to more whimsical pieces. I love creating unique designs like the characterful cat's head with heart-shaped eyes and a party hat, or elegant swallow tattoos in flight. Each tattoo tells a story, and I try to capture that personal narrative whether it's a bold dagger with a red crystal hilt or a detailed Tiffany-style lamp design. I also find so much joy in bringing to life feminine horse tattoo ideas, often incorporating dreamcatcher designs or wildflowers to make them truly special. The goal is always high resolution, detailed art, like the stunning metallic-looking female figure piece I recently completed. Being a young tattoo artist definitely has its unique challenges and rewards. There's a constant drive to prove yourself, to absorb every bit of knowledge, and to continuously push your artistic boundaries. But seeing the joy on a client's face when they see their finished tattoo, knowing I've created something beautiful and meaningful for them – that’s truly the best part of this journey. It's not just about the ink; it's about connecting with people and creating lasting memories. Every "favourite tattoo I've done" is a milestone in my growth. For anyone looking to get started in the industry, my biggest advice is to draw, draw, draw! Build that fundamental artistic skill. Then, seek out reputable shops for apprenticeships. Don't rush the process; dedication and patience are your best tools. And for those looking for their next piece, don't be afraid to bring your wild ideas! I love collaborating on everything from bold statements to subtle tributes. Creating beautiful art for beautiful people is what it's all about, and I'm excited to see what the next year brings.
