「大江戸川越」で調べて出てくるけど、実際は“小江戸・川越”の雰囲気を楽しむお散歩が最高でした。私が行ってみて一番よかったのは、とにかく朝早めに動くこと。今回は9:00に時の鐘近くへ着くようにして、蔵造りの街並み（蔵の建物が並ぶ通り）を先にゆっくり歩きました。午前中は写真も撮りやすいし、人気店の前も人が少なくてデートでも気まずくならないのが嬉しいポイント。散策の流れは、ざっくり「時の鐘→蔵造りの街並み→カフェ休憩→菓子屋横丁」。歩いているうちにだんだんお店が開いてきて、“街が起きてくる感じ”が楽しかったです。途中で寄った瓦屋根っぽい外観のスタバ（川越らしい建物！）は、歩き疲れたタイミングでちょうどよくて、抹茶系のドリンクで一息つけました。食べ歩きは菓子屋横丁が強いです。木の看板が並んでいて、甘い匂いに釣られてつい買いすぎ注意。私はアトム像のある麩菓子屋さんで大きい麩菓子をゲット。お店によって値段が違うので、同じものでも見比べると意外と差がありました。「せっかくならここで買おう」っていう小さな発見が旅っぽくて好き。あと、川越名物で外せないのが「いも恋」。蒸し器から湯気が上がってるのを見ると絶対食べたくなります。ほくほく系が好きなら、食べ歩きの序盤より“少し歩いてお腹が空いた頃”に食べるのがおすすめでした。混雑を避けたい人向けのコツは3つだけ。・到着は9:00前後（写真も撮りやすい）・人気店は開店直後を狙う（行列前に入れることも）・食べ歩きはシェア前提で選ぶ（後半も楽しめる）「大江戸川越」で検索して行き先に迷っている人も、まずは時の鐘を起点に歩けばOK。王道だけど満足度高いので、次の休日デートにぜひ。
