how to improve your focus this school year 📖✨🧘

hii! I just woke up the other day and realized how close i am to school starting again 😔. It also made me realize that all of the doomscrolling I did this summer has probably messed up my attention span, so I thought I would do a post on focus to help anybody else who might have similar issues ☺️

💗 One of the most important things for me is to plan ahead. Not only does this make things so much easier, but it prevents the chance of getting sidetracked when you’re trying to figure out what to do next. You don’t have to plan the night before or wake up early at 6 in the morning, but you just have to do it before you start the first task.

💗 I also find it difficult sometimes to start the task and this is where I use the 321 method. All I do is count backwards from three and once I reach one I immediately start whatever it is I have to do without giving myself time to think. This helps stop my cycle of procrastination.

💗 Once I’ve started, I make sure that I am focused on one thing. This is where planning from before comes in handy because as soon as I feel like my focus is going in two different directions, I start feeling overwhelmed, which leads to procrastination. This also helps me be more efficient because my train of thought isn’t getting interrupted by thoughts about other issues.

💗 to make sure that I don’t get distracted, I use the 3 D’s, which are delete, distance, and delay. For deleting I completely get rid of of whatever is distracting me. Distance is what I tend to usually do which is still having the item but not making it accessible when I am working. This is usually putting my phone outside of reaching distance or putting it in another room. Lastly, delay is setting specified times to access things, and I usually do this with social media apps where I’ll give myself 10 minutes every hour.

💗 Just remember that it’s totally okay if you don’t feel a change in focus right away. Your mind needs time to adapt, and bad habits take time to break.

💗 Make sure that you give yourself breaks in between working because your brain can focus best if it’s well rested. I suggest Pomodoro timers because I feel like they have a good break-to-work ratio because I feel like they have a good break to work ratio.
