DIY Christmas Card
I absolutely adore making my own Christmas cards! There's something so incredibly special about sending out a handmade creation, especially when you can infuse it with a bit of unique creativity. This year, I decided to step away from the traditional snow scenes and went for something a bit unexpected but totally festive: a 'Seas and Greetings from Santa' theme! It was such a blast to conceptualize and draw. For my 'Seas and Greetings' card, I imagined Santa trading his sleigh for a surfboard and his warm suit for some Hawaiian shorts! I started by sketching out Santa on a tropical beach, perhaps with palm trees in the background, a few friendly fish swimming by, and instead of reindeer, maybe some playful dolphins. I used bright, vibrant watercolors for the ocean and sandy beach, and then fine-tipped markers to add details to Santa's outfit and expressions. Don't forget a tiny gift box floating in the water or peeking out from under a palm tree! It was truly a 'DIY CHRISTMAS CARD I MADE' with a twist, and it brought so many smiles. If you're looking to create your own unique and creative Christmas card drawings this season, here are a few tips I've picked up: 1. Brainstorm Unexpected Themes: Think outside the box! Instead of classic winter scenes, consider themes like 'Christmas in Space,' 'Festive Forest Animals,' or even 'Retro Holiday Party.' A unique concept immediately makes your card stand out. 2. Play with Perspective and Style: Try drawing Santa from a worm's-eye view looking up at him flying, or a bird's-eye view of a bustling elf workshop. Experiment with different drawing styles – cartoonish, realistic, minimalist, or even abstract. This adds so much personality to your artwork. 3. Incorporate Personal Touches: Does the recipient have a favorite animal, hobby, or inside joke? Weave these elements into your drawing. For example, if they love cats, draw a cat tangled in Christmas lights! This makes the card incredibly meaningful and shows you put thought into it. 4. Don't Be Afraid of Mixed Media: You don't have to stick to just one type of art supply. Combine markers with colored pencils, add glitter glue for sparkle, or even small collage elements like fabric scraps or ribbon. These textures can make your card pop. 5. Simple Can Be Stunning: You don't need to be a professional artist to make a beautiful card. Sometimes, a simple, whimsical line drawing with a splash of color is more charming than an overly complicated one. Focus on clear shapes and a heartfelt message. 6. Practice and Enjoy the Process: Grab some scrap paper and just doodle! Don't aim for perfection on your first try. The joy of DIY is in the process of creating. Even small imperfections can add to the handmade charm. Remember, it's about spreading cheer with something made with love. Creating these cards is not just about the end product; it's about the festive spirit you put into every stroke. So, grab your pencils and paper, and let your imagination flow to make some truly memorable Christmas card drawings this year!
