Having a Bad Day? Read this…

Especially in moments when you're not feeling great, everything seems to pile up and feel much worse than it is. All the negative thoughts and past experiences resurface, but having a bad feeling or a bad day doesn't mean you have a bad life. This is the most important thing to remember on days like these. Allow yourself to feel your negative emotions, don't suppress them. But that doesn't mean you have to analyze everything or link it all to your inner child; sometimes there are just bad days, and that's completely okay! Life isn't about being happy all the time, because without the bad days, there would be no good ones. Don't pressure yourself or overthink things. On these days, give yourself extra love and listen to your body. Do what brings you joy-read a book and snuggle up, watch your favorite series, or simply lie down in bed. Take a break from your routine and relax. And if there are things you absolutely need to do, take them slow and in a relaxed rhythm. But always remember:

"Nothing is permanent, not even the worst feelings."

... Read moreWe've all been there, right? Those days where you wake up, and it just feels *off*. Everything seems harder, and negativity creeps in. I used to beat myself up for feeling that way, thinking I should be happy all the time. But through my own journey, I’ve realized that a bad day isn't a sign of failure; it's just part of the human experience. As my favorite quote reminds me, 'nothing is permanent, not even the worst feelings.' This perspective has been a game-changer, helping me embrace the temporary nature of difficult emotions. When I'm having a rough day, beyond just snuggling up with a book (which I totally recommend!), I’ve found a few other strategies for coping that really make a difference. One simple thing is to acknowledge how I’m feeling without judgment. Sometimes, just naming the emotion – 'I feel overwhelmed today' or 'I feel sad' – can take away some of its power. Another comforting advice I often give myself is to go for a short walk outside. Even just 15 minutes of fresh air and seeing something green can shift my mood. It's amazing how much a little movement can help clear your head! I also make sure to engage in intentional self-care. This isn't just about pampering; it's about checking in with myself. Do I need to vent to a friend? Maybe write down my thoughts in a journal? Or perhaps just put on my favorite playlist and do something mindless like coloring? Sometimes, I even try a quick 5-minute breathing exercise. It grounds me and reminds me that I have control over my present moment, even if everything else feels chaotic. If you find yourself constantly having bad days, or if those feelings feel too heavy to manage alone, please know it's okay to reach out. While it's normal to have ups and downs, persistent low mood or a complete loss of interest in things you once enjoyed could be signs your mental health is getting worse. Talking to a trusted friend, family member, or even a professional can provide the support you need. Just remember, asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. And what about when someone else you care about is having a bad day? It can be tough to know what to do. My go-to is always to listen without judgment. Validate their feelings – 'That sounds really tough,' or 'It's okay to feel that way.' Offer practical help if you can, like bringing them a cup of tea or just sitting with them. Sometimes, simply being present is the most powerful thing you can do. Remind them gently that even though today might be a 'crap day,' it doesn't define their entire life. We're all in this together, and a little empathy goes a long way in turning a rough patch into a recoverable moment.

my whole life i defined consistency as perfection. if i slipped up, missed a day, made a mistake, then in my head i “broke my streak” and had to start all over again (which is super discouraging) but consistency isn’t doing everything exactly right every day. it’s about showing up to the table -

A person holds the book 'DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU THINK' by Joseph Nguyen in a bookstore. Overlays describe finding the book as a message from the universe during a bad day, hoping it helps a mindset shift.
An open book displays pages 18 and 19, discussing how feelings originate from our thinking about events, not the external events themselves, using examples like job stress.
An open book shows pages 20 and 21, explaining that our perception of reality is shaped by our thinking, and changing our thinking can change our reality, leading to the root cause of suffering.
