... Read moreHey everyone! I'm so excited to share more about my process behind drawing these puppet characters and cute birb doodles. When I started sketching this humanoid puppet-like figure, I really wanted to capture that classic puppet feel, almost like a puppet master was holding its hands. It's all about those subtle details that bring them to life on paper. For the puppet character, I focused a lot on giving it a distinct personality through its design. I always find the hands to be a crucial part of drawing any character, especially puppets. To make them look truly authentic, I try to emphasize the joints and mimic the way strings might be attached, even if they're not explicitly drawn. Thinking about how a puppet's hands would naturally pose or hang adds so much to its overall appearance. I also love adding stitched body details and unique curly features to give them that whimsical, handcrafted look. Deciding between a more traditional 'Puppet Vers.' or a lively 'Animated Drawn Vers.' always guides my line work and expression. And then there are the eyes! For both my puppet and birb characters, I love to give them large eyes. They're such a powerful tool for conveying emotion and making the characters feel engaging. Whether it’s a mischievous glance or a simple, curious stare, the eyes really draw you in. I’ve found that experimenting with different eye shapes and reflections can completely change the character's mood. For the birbs, those large, expressive eyes combined with curly features give them so much charm and character, making them feel playful and alive. When I'm sketching, I often think about the stories these characters could tell. What kind of adventures would this puppet go on? What kind of sounds would these birbs make? This helps me to infuse more life and realism into my drawings, even when they're fantastical. It's not just about drawing a figure; it's about imagining its world. I also love to play with dynamic poses for the birb-like characters, making them look like they're mid-flight or about to chirp something delightful. The curly features on their wings and tails add to their whimsical nature. My advice for anyone trying to draw unique characters, be it puppets or birbs, is to observe. Look at different puppet styles, study how human hands move, and even watch bird videos. Then, don't be afraid to exaggerate features or add your own imaginative twists. That's how you really make a drawing your own and bring out the fun in the creative process! Keep sketching, and enjoy every doodle!
