Which of our kids look like which parent?!
Okay, so this is a topic that comes up almost daily in our home! My partner and I are always looking at our little ones, Hovah and Laekin, and trying to spot who they resemble more. It's truly one of the most fun parts of parenthood, watching their personalities develop but also seeing those familiar family traits emerge. When we look at Hovah, especially when he's in his favorite Batman-themed outfits, sometimes I see my dad's determined expression, even in a baby! And then his smile? My partner swears it's a carbon copy of his own childhood grin. It's fascinating how some features are so distinct. We pulled out some old baby photos ā mine with pigtails, and my partnerās sitting in a high chair with that plaid pattern background ā and the comparison game really began. For Laekin, it's a whole new puzzle! One day, her little nose looks just like mine, and the next, her eyebrows have my partner's distinctive arch. It's like they're a perfect blend, taking the best bits from both of us. Sometimes it's the subtle things, like the shape of their fingertips, or even how they hold their head while sleeping. Other times, it's something really obvious, like the exact shade of hair or the shape of an eye. It's not just about physical appearance either. Sometimes I notice little mannerisms that are so clearly inherited. The way Hovah giggles, it reminds me so much of my own sister. Or Laekin's curious gaze ā that's definitely her dad's intellectual spark! It makes you think about all the amazing genetic lottery that happens when a new life comes into the world. We've had friends and family weigh in, of course. Everyone has their own opinion on which parent our kids favor. And honestly, it changes as they grow and develop. What was obvious at six months might be less so at two years. It's a journey of discovery. What about your kids? Do they have their mom's eyes or their dad's chin? Or are they a perfect mix? We often find ourselves looking at our own baby photos and then at our kids, trying to find those exact matches. It's such a heartwarming game, reminding us of our connection as a family. Itās also a lovely way to bond over the past and present, seeing how much of ourselves and our ancestors live on in our children. It's a reminder of the beautiful legacy we create. We love looking at old photos and imagining how our kids will grow into their unique selves, carrying pieces of us both.
