I know $400 for one coat can be a shock!!! However, I am trying to invest and be intentional with my shopping and clothing pieces. So let me explain why I justify it!
First of all this is the Long Wool Coat Brown Herringbone from Djerf Avenue. It retails for $400 but I did purchase during a promotion and paid $320.
One of the biggest things I’m looking at when making large purchases is material. This coat is made out of 100% wool which is why I can justify paying a higher price. So many clothes that we spend money on are just 100% polyester. If this coat was not made out of 100% wool, I would not spend the money on it.
When making big purchases, I also look at if a piece is trending or if it is timeless. To me, investing in timeless pieces is most important because I know I will get the most wear and bang for my buck.
I’ve owned this coat since this fall in winter and it was the easiest piece to style and throw over all my outfits. I honestly prefer having one nice staple coat rather than multiple cheap coats.

From my personal experience, the appeal of 100% RWS certified wool lies not only in its warmth but also its durability and luxurious feel, which synthetic materials often lack. The certification also ensures responsible wool sourcing, an aspect increasingly important to conscious shoppers.
The coat’s oversized fit and maxi length make it versatile for layering, especially during harsh winter months when you need both style and functionality. Inner and outer pockets add practicality—a feature sometimes overlooked but invaluable in everyday wear. One of the most important considerations for me has been the coat’s straight silhouette and classic brown herringbone pattern, which remain stylish year after year rather than falling prey to fast fashion trends.
When comparing to less expensive coats, the difference is clear: cheaper polyester coats may wear out quickly and lose shape, whereas a well-made wool coat maintains its integrity, making the higher upfront investment more economical long term. I also appreciate that having one staple piece encourages mindful consumption, reducing impulse purchases of multiple lower-quality coats.
Styling a timeless piece like this is effortless—you can pair it with casual jeans and boots or dress it up for professional settings. This flexibility increases its value, as it complements various outfits and occasions. Ultimately, spending $400 on this coat felt justified because it balances quality, ethics, durability, and timeless style, making it an investment I continue to enjoy season after season.
No, because I really don’t wear coats. I live in the south and we really don’t have winters.
