But what if Nerf wars aren't your thing, or you've got another giant box lying around from a recent delivery? Don't toss that precious cardboard! These big boxes are goldmines for creativity. Here are a few other ideas I've seen or tried that can transform a seemingly useless 'cardboard treadmill' box into hours of fun: DIY Playhouse/Castle: Grab some kid-safe paint, markers, and glitter! Let the kids decorate their own dream house or a majestic castle. You can even cut out bigger doors and add fabric curtains for extra flair. I've found this can lead to hours of quiet, imaginative play – a rare gem in a house with active boys! Race Car/Spaceship: For younger kids, just a few simple cuts can transform a box into a car they can 'drive' or a rocket ship ready for blast-off. Art Easel/Mural Wall: Open the box flat and tape it to a wall or lay it on the floor. It instantly becomes a giant canvas for collaborative art. Tunnel System: If you happen to have multiple large boxes, connect them to create an epic tunnel or maze.
