I need a nice steak
Out for a drive and outside is foggy with smoke from yesterday, so Blue wants to lay down in the AC take a nap. I don’t blame him one bit. It’s hot muggy and you can barely breathe outside. That’s my boy.
On days when the weather turns hot, muggy, and smoky like this one, I find that nothing hits the spot quite like a well-cooked steak. Whether it's a Ribeye, New York Strip, or Filet Mignon, a nice steak can be the ultimate comfort meal. I usually prefer to prepare it indoors, away from the heavy, smoky air. Using an air-conditioned room and grill pan or even a cast-iron skillet can make all the difference. The key to a great steak is proper seasoning and cooking technique. I like to season my steak generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper about 40 minutes before cooking to let the flavors seep in. Then, I preheat my skillet until it’s smoking hot before placing the steak on it; this helps to get a flavorful crust while keeping the inside juicy. On days when you can barely breathe outside due to smoke, stepping into an air-conditioned space is a huge relief, both for you and your furry friends. My dog, much like Blue, also enjoys lying down in the cool AC when it’s too oppressive outside. Preparing steak indoors becomes part of a calming routine that turns a stifling day into a cozy experience. If you’re not up for cooking, many local steakhouse deliveries may be an option—just be sure to check reviews to find the best quality. Pair your steak with simple sides like a fresh salad or steamed vegetables to keep the focus on the meat. From my experience, enjoying a nice steak during hot, smoky days is not just about the food; it’s about creating a comforting and relaxing environment inside. It’s a perfect way to treat yourself and recharge when the outdoors is less than inviting.
