I DNF’d THIS BOOK SO FAST!

✨ Just finished Quicksilver by Callie Hart—and WOW. Dark, emotional, and totally addictive. Now I’m in that awkward post-book slump and eyeing The Cruel Prince by Holly Black… 👀

Here’s the thing: I actually tried reading The Cruel Prince a while ago and DNF’d it within the first few chapters. I remember thinking it was overhyped and honestly kinda horrible. 🫣

BUT now I’m wondering… was I too quick to judge? People swear the series gets better. The court politics, the morally gray characters, the enemies-to-lovers tension—everyone says it’s worth it if you push through.

So now I’m torn. Do I give it another shot and hope it hits different this time? Or trust my gut and move on?

📚 Someone convince me to keep going (or tell me I was right the first time). Is it really worth the hype?

... Read moreIf you've been contemplating reading The Cruel Prince, it's essential to understand why this book has garnered such a massive following. The series, known for its intricate court politics and morally ambiguous characters, has captivated many avid readers. Fans often describe it as a perfect blend of fantasy and romance, where the enemies-to-lovers trope adds a complex layer to the story. Holly Black, a bestselling author, has a remarkable talent for world-building, creating magical realms that feel both lush and dangerous. The language used throughout the narrative has been praised for its vivid imagery and emotional weight, which can hook readers from start to finish. While my initial impression of The Cruel Prince was less than favorable, I’ve heard countless accounts from others who felt similarly but went on to love the series. It's a common experience in the literary community to encounter books that don’t resonate at first but become favorites upon a second read. The transformation in perception can be profound, especially if you begin to see deeper themes and character development on a second pass. If you're currently in a reading slump, attempting to revisit The Cruel Prince could be a refreshing choice. Embrace the possibility that what once seemed overhyped might reveal an entirely new charm. Engaging in discussions on platforms like #BookTok may provide further insights and encouragement to continue your reading journey. You may find that re-evaluating your stance brings unexpected joy and connection with this beloved series.

This was before I knew how to DNF a book and… I wish I had with these. My main reasons were either the book was way too unrealistic for a thriller/unbelievable, not age appropriate or just straight up boring 🥱 No hate if you liked these! They just were my cup of tea and that’s okay! ✨
