HOW TO MANAGE A BUSY SCHEDULE
I know managing a busy schedule can be a challenge, so here are some tips from somehow who took 21 credits last semester, worked 30-35 hours a week, got 6-8 hours of sleep a night, AND still found time to travel + have a social life :)
📆 Use Google Calendar 📆 This keeps track of all your obligations so you don’t accidentally over book yourself. It’s incredibly helpful because you can access it from your phone, tablet, or computer. You can also add tasks to Google Calendar to help keep track of assignments, but I found this clutters it up too much for my liking.
✏️ To-Do Lists ✏️ Using these is a great way to break down larger projects into more manageable tasks. When I make my schedule for the whole week I put the larger task that needs to be acccomplished, then when I make my daily to-do lists I write down the smaller tasks I need to do to get the project done! For example, if I have to read two chapters so that I write a discussion by Friday, I will have the overarching assignment of the discussion post written down on the weekly list, and then whatever I plan to do each day on my daily lists.
📝 Master List of Assignments 📝 If you are a student having a master list is a MUST! This helps you easily look ahead to see what needs to be done and keeps you from accidentally forgetting a major project and pulling all nighters. I color coded mine by class, had it organized by when things were due, and had a box to mark weather it was competed, in-progress, or not started.
💤 Take a Rest Day 💤 I know when you’re busy it can be easy to give up rest in order to get things done, but this will only lead to burn out. Try to schedule one day off a week so you have time to take care of yourself and your relationships! I never work Sundays and this gives me time to do what I need to do without staying up all night.

Managing a busy schedule is often one of the most significant challenges faced by students and professionals alike. With the pressures of academic responsibilities, work commitments, and personal lives, staying organized is crucial. One of the first steps you can take is utilizing digital tools like Google Calendar. This application not only allows you to keep track of all obligations but also provides reminders, which are essential for avoiding overcommitment. Moreover, color coding your calendar can help you quickly identify which tasks belong to school, work, or personal categories, making your scheduling process even more efficient. In addition to a calendar, creating detailed to-do lists can significantly enhance your productivity. By breaking down larger projects into smaller, manageable tasks, you will reduce overwhelm and make sure that nothing is overlooked. Setting aside time each week to review and plan your daily tasks is vital in keeping track of deadlines and assignments. Furthermore, integrating a master list of assignments helps prevent the risk of missing crucial deadlines. Color coding and organizing tasks by due dates will streamline your workflow, ensuring that you stay on top of all your responsibilities. Another essential aspect of managing a busy schedule is recognizing the importance of rest. Many individuals tend to sacrifice their downtime in pursuit of productivity, which can result in severe burnout. Scheduling a designated rest day allows you to recharge and manage stress effectively. This day off can be a time to catch up on sleep, spend quality time with loved ones, or simply engage in leisurely activities that you enjoy. By prioritizing both productivity and self-care, you can maintain a healthier balance in life.
