GOODBYE SUMMER

Why I’ve accepted that I am an Autumn.

If you caught that very slight Gilmore Girls reference, then you too may be on the same path as me. The story of how I’ve come to love Fall - or ✨Autumn✨ as we’ll call it - is very long. But, here I will give you my short ~poetic~ version.

I wasn’t always an Autumn. I used to love the freedom of Summer. I loved the vacations. I loved the bikinis. I loved the parties. I loved the heat. I still love the ocean.

But, something changed last year. The turmoil I experienced hit me hardest come Fall. I found myself engulfed in a new comfort show - Gilmore Girls. I found myself lonely at the beach in November - very cold sand beneath my toes. Sweatshirt and sweatpants comfortably on. I found myself all of a sudden day dreaming about a trip to Vermont or Maine with my friends. I took many 4 AM trips up into the Blue Ridge Mountains to watch the sunrise over the warmly painted trees.

As time has passed I’ve realized that I am coming full circle. I made it out of that turmoil a new person. I no longer crave the heavy, exhausting heat that a Virginia summer brings, but the crisp and light Autumn air.

I feel renewed and ready to take on the new season.
