my home rules for 2026๐Ÿ ๐Ÿงบ

these are my basic home rules for 2026:

1. put all the shoes away!! what did i buy this shoe cabinet for if no one puts their shoes in it?! ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐Ÿ˜‚

2. deal with the mail immediately after getting it!! i will set it down someplace & completely forget abt it and then realize there are important things in there!!! i need to deal with it as soon as i get it! ๐Ÿ“จ

3. making my bed everyday. itโ€™s a quick thing to do in the morning to make yourself feel good and coming home to a made bed is such a beautiful thing.

4. keeping my washer door wide open as to not allow mold to get in there because this is a basement apartment thereโ€™s already not a ton of natural light and a TON of moisture, and iโ€™d like to keep my washer working well & clean!

5. this year i really got into the habit of air drying all of my delicates and iโ€™m so glad i did. it keeps my delicates in amazing condition and i regret every putting them in the dryer before, to be fair i used to go to the laundry mat like once a month (itโ€™s really hard to find time when you work full time!? plus a lot of these laundromats are terrifying at night as a women!?!) and i would just out of laziness end up drying all of my delicates in the actual dryer. huge regret.

these are just some of the ways im aiming to keep a cleaner, healthier home in 2026

Read moreMaintaining a clean and organized home can significantly improve your daily comfort and wellbeing, especially when living in challenging environments like a basement apartment with limited natural light and high moisture levels. One tip that has made a noticeable difference for me is keeping the washer door wide open after each use. This simple habit helps prevent mold buildup, which is common in damp areas, and keeps the appliance fresh and functioning properly for longer. Another small but impactful rule is immediately dealing with the mail as soon as it arrives. I used to let piles accumulate, only to find important documents buried under junk mail. Now, sorting and addressing mail right away saves me from stress and missing deadlines. On the topic of footwear, designating a specific spot to store shoes โ€” like a shoe cabinet โ€” is essential. It keeps entryways tidy and prevents dirt and germs from spreading indoors. Encouraging everyone in the household to use the cabinet has helped me maintain better order and cleanliness. Making my bed every morning has transformed how I feel about my space. It takes just a few minutes but instantly creates a welcoming atmosphere, making weekends and weeknights feel more restful and enjoyable. Lastly, air drying delicates has become a game-changer for preserving the fabric quality. Whenever possible, I avoid using the dryer for delicate items, which can shrink or wear out clothing faster. Though it requires a bit more effort and space, air drying not only prolongs the life of garments but also reduces energy consumption โ€” a win-win for health and sustainability. Each of these simple but effective habits contributes to a cleaner, healthier home environment. Incorporating them into daily routines can be especially rewarding for busy individuals balancing work and home life, and for anyone wanting to create a more pleasant and organized living space in 2026.
