Okay, so for our second day at the Oregon Zoo, the map was seriously our best friend, especially with two little explorers under three! Trying to keep toddlers entertained and on schedule can be a challenge, but a well-planned route makes all the difference. I wanted to share some tips that really helped us maximize our visit, especially if you're like me and relying on that crucial Oregon Zoo map. First things first, grab a physical map at the entrance or download the digital version beforehand. We found the physical one super handy for quick glances and pointing out animals to the kids. It clearly labels all the 'GREAT NORTHWEST ATTRACTIONS' and different zones like 'ELEPHANT LANDS', 'PRIMATE FOREST', and 'AFRICA'. Knowing which general direction to head in saved us a lot of backtracking and meltdowns! One of our favorite sections was definitely 'ELEPHANT LANDS'. The map shows it clearly, and it’s a must-see. We also loved exploring the 'PACIFIC SHORES' where you can spot 'Harbor Seals' and 'Polar Bears'. The 'DISCOVERY Family ZONE' is also a lifesaver for when the kids need to burn off some energy. The map points out all the 'Play Zones', which are essential stops! Don't forget to check out the 'Zoo Train' – it's a fantastic way to see a lot without tiring out tiny legs. The map highlights its route and stops. We also made sure to find the 'Aviary Cafe' and other 'Snacks and Drinks' locations highlighted on the map for timely refreshments. Those 'Elephant Ears' are a classic zoo treat! Another cool thing we stumbled upon, thanks to the map, was the 'Washed ashore! Irt to Save the Sea' sculpture. It's truly unique and a great talking point for kids about conservation. The map is really detailed, showing everything from 'Mountain Goats' and 'Black Bears' in the Northwest section to 'Giraffes' and 'Lions' in 'AFRICA'. My advice? Before you even enter, take a few minutes to look at the map and mark down your absolute must-sees. With toddlers, you can’t hit everything, so prioritizing is key. We focused on areas with lots of interactive elements or where we knew specific animals our boys would love, like the 'Chimpanzees' in the 'PRIMATE FOREST' or the 'Red Pandas'. The map also shows all essential facilities like restrooms and first aid, which are crucial when you have little ones. Having my sister there to help navigate and keep an eye on the map while I wrangled the kids was a huge help! So, next time you're planning an Oregon Zoo adventure, make that map your guide!
