AFRICAN AMERICANS & TAROT-(SOUL BLUEPRINT LAYOUT)
MINI HISTORY: AFRICAN AMERICANS & TAROT
Tarot ain’t just some new-age thing—it got deep soul roots in our history too. Black folks been interpreting signs, symbols, and spirit messages long before tarot decks came with fancy boxes. From rootworkers to dream interpreters, spiritual midwives to hoodoo practitioners—we been tapped in.
During Reconstruction and well into the 20th century, Black women, especially in the South, read cards (playing cards too, not just tarot) as a way to guide folks, protect the community, and keep that spiritual line strong. Tarot was adapted into our spiritual practices like hoodoo, conjure, and Afro-Caribbean traditions—infusing the cards with ancestral meaning and cultural power.
Today, more of us are reclaiming that legacy. We reading not just for fun, but for healing, liberation, and spiritual justice. Tarot is another way we listen to what spirit been trying to tell us.
