Grab a tea or light that incense, ’cause we about to clear the air:

💫 20 Spirituality Myths That Folks Stay Getting Wrong:

1. “Being spiritual means being perfect all the time.”

✨ Naw. Real spirituality includes shadow work, healing, and owning your flaws.

2. “You gotta be peaceful and calm 24/7.”

🧘🏾‍♀️ Girl, even Buddha had bad days. Emotions are part of the process, not a failure of it.

3. “Crystals solve everything.”

💎 They’re tools, not miracle workers. You still gotta do the inner work.

4. “If it’s not ‘love and light,’ it’s dark or evil.”

⚖️ Balance, baby. Light without shadow ain’t real healing.

5. “You have to be vegan or eat a certain way to be spiritual.”

🍲 Spirituality ain’t a diet. It’s alignment, intention, and respect for life — not a plate choice.

6. “Tarot and astrology are the devil’s work.”

🔮 Nope. These are ancient tools from global cultures, not some Hollywood horror flick.

7. “You can manifest anything just by thinking positive.”

🧠 Intent helps, but aligned action, timing, and healing your subconscious blockages matter too.

8. “Once you’re awakened, the journey is over.”

🛣️ Sis… awakening is the beginning. The real ride starts after.

9. “You need a guru, priest, or elder to be legit.”

🧓🏽 Nah. You can learn from others, but your spirit speaks directly to you, too.

10. “Mercury retrograde ruins everything!”

🪐 It don’t ruin nothin’ — it reveals what needs fixing. Chill and pay attention.

11. “All spirits or ancestors wanna help you.”

👻 Not always. Some need healing or boundaries. Discernment is key.

12. “Meditation means sitting still for hours.”

🧎🏾‍♀️ Walking, dancing, painting — anything mindful can be meditation.

13. “You can’t be spiritual and make money.”

💰 That poverty mindset ain’t divine. Abundance is part of the flow too.

14. “Witchcraft is evil.”

🕯️ Witchcraft is just spiritual practice with intention — it ain’t inherently dark unless you make it that way.

15. “Once you’re healed, life gets easy.”

🔄 Healing comes in cycles. Life still throws lessons — you just handle ’em better.

16. “You have to use sage or palo santo.”

🌿 Not true. Many Indigenous cultures protect those plants. You got options — like rosemary, mugwort, or Florida Water.

17. “Spiritual people don’t get angry.”

😤 Anger is divine fire too. It just gotta be channeled right, not buried.

18. “All spirit guides are angels or light beings.”

🐆 Some are animal spirits, ancestors, old gods, or even tricksters — it’s a whole team out there.

19. “Only women or ‘feminine’ folks can be spiritual.”

🙅🏽‍♂️ Spirituality don’t care about your gender. Everyone got spirit in ’em.

20. “If it works for one person, it’ll work for everybody.”

🌈 No ma’am. Your path is yours. What opens one door might block another.

✨ Real spirituality is messy, magical, personal, and powerful. It ain’t about aesthetics or trends — it’s about truth, connection, and evolution. Keep askin’ questions, keep learning, and don’t let anybody gatekeep your growth.

... Read moreMy spiritual journey has been a wild ride, and honestly, for a long time, I was caught up in so many common myths about spirituality that left me feeling more confused than enlightened. It's so easy to stumble into these popular myths about what it means to be 'spiritual,' especially with so much information (and misinformation!) circulating online. I remember seeing images of serene spiritual gurus and thinking, 'Why isn't my spiritual path always peaceful and calm?' That's one of the biggest 'wrong myths' out there – the idea that true spirituality means being perfectly blissful 24/7. But as I started digging deeper, I realized that real spiritual growth isn't about constant perfection or suppressing emotions. It’s about embracing the full spectrum of human experience, including the messy parts. Like, seriously, who told us we couldn't be spiritual and still have bad days? Even the wisest among us experience anger or sadness. It's about how you process and learn from those emotions, not pretending they don't exist. This was a huge shift for me, moving away from a rigid, unrealistic ideal. Another spiritual myth I had to debunk for myself was around tools like crystals. I used to think if I just had the right crystal, all my problems would magically disappear. While I absolutely love my crystals and believe in their energy, they're truly just tools, not miracle workers. They can support your intentions, but they don't do the 'inner work' for you. That realization was pivotal – it put the power back in my hands, reminding me that my own healing and growth are my responsibility, not a crystal's. So, when I see a beautiful spiritual photo with crystals, I now appreciate it for the aesthetic and the energy, but I know the real magic happens within. And what about manifestation? Oh, the 'you can manifest anything just by thinking positive' myth! I spent so much time just visualizing, only to feel frustrated when things didn't materialize. What I learned is that aligned action is crucial. Positive thoughts are a fantastic starting point, but they need to be backed by effort and an understanding of your own subconscious blocks. Sometimes, the universe has a different timing or a different path for us, and that's okay. It’s about co-creating, not simply demanding. It's fascinating how many of these popular myths are perpetuated, sometimes even within spiritual communities. I've seen 'folks' (and I'm thinking of various communities, much like the older women in colorful dresses I've seen at spiritual gatherings, sharing their wisdom which sometimes includes these myths) clinging to ideas that might not serve their highest good. My journey, and what I hope for yours, is to question everything, listen to your intuition, and find what genuinely resonates. Don't let anyone gatekeep your connection to your higher self or tell you there's only one 'right' way. Your path is uniquely yours, and the beauty of spirituality is its personal, evolving nature. Keep asking questions, keep learning, and most importantly, keep being authentically YOU.
