In honor of the closing ceremony of @Glasgow 2026 #commonwealthgames, here’s a recap of the opening ceremony.
It was an unforgettable time! Starting out with an interview with @Gully Singh who is an official Glasgow host, and a new friend @derryFurbaws00 who was part of the opening ceremony.
The weather was incredible and the fan zone had all of these minted (Derry taught me this word lol) activations and sponsors including @BYD @HBO Max UK & Ireland and great merchandise.
@Sam Heughan was tasked with taming Nessie and was wearing a custom phenomenal ensemble by @Siobhan | Fashion Designer
When Team Scotland came out, it was a truly remarkable entrance with so many pipers playing Flower of Scotland. 🏴
I had the best possible seats in the stadium because the rest were reserved for athletes, family members and dignitaries, so it was cool to be with a lot of the media.
All in all, it was a great evening and I couldn’t stop smiling.
Attending the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. As someone who’s always appreciated major sporting events, being there in person allowed me to soak in the atmosphere and the rich cultural displays that made the ceremony so special. One standout aspect was the incredible variety of fan zone activations, which not only entertained attendees but also offered a fantastic way to engage with sponsors like BYD and HBO Max UK & Ireland. The term “minted,” which I learned from a local friend, perfectly captured the fresh and exciting vibe of the entire venue. One of the most memorable highlights was seeing Sam Heughan, a well-known actor and Commonwealth Games ambassador for Scotland, take on the whimsical task of taming “Nessie,” Scotland’s legendary Loch Ness Monster. His custom-made outfit by designer Siobhan Mackenzie added an extra layer of spectacle to the event. The energy shifted again with the entrance of Team Scotland, whose arrival was powerfully accompanied by the stirring sound of bagpipes playing "Flower of Scotland." The collective pride felt throughout the stadium was palpable, and the tradition embedded in the ceremony brought a deep emotional connection for many attendees. Besides the performances, I found the crowd’s enthusiasm infectious. Despite the reserved seating arrangements prioritizing athletes, their families, and dignitaries, sitting among media representatives enabled me to get close to the action and witness candid moments behind the scenes. The impeccable weather added to the festive spirit, making it a perfect night to celebrate unity, sportsmanship, and cultural heritage. For anyone looking to attend a major sporting event in the future, the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony is a perfect example of how the combination of local culture, celebrity involvement, and interactive fan experiences can create an unforgettable encounter. The event not only showcased athletic excellence but also highlighted Scotland’s rich traditions and welcoming community spirit, leaving a lasting impression on everyone present.
