Wicked Movie Review ๐ซง๐๐งน๐
After years of waiting, the Wicked movie is finally here! I saw it on its official release date and it was absolutely stunning! The costumes, the set, the little nods to Wizard of Oz! I will say it was very long (especially since itโs only Act 1), but I can really see why. It gives more detail and time to parts in the musical that couldnโt be given on stage.
And as someone whoโs seen the musical on Broadway twice, it was SOO cool seeing how they adapted specific moments onto the screen! And seeing Ariana Grande as Glinda absolutely warmed my heart! She got me through one of the toughest times of my life, and it was beautiful watching her happiness flourish through a role sheโs wanted for so long. As a theatre girly, I know that feeling all too well, and Iโm so happy for her.

The release of the Wicked movie has become a major talking point among fans of both the stage musical and the original Wizard of Oz series. With Broadway's long-standing success, this cinematic adaptation has a lot to live up to. Critics and audiences alike are buzzing about the set design, reminiscent of the enchanting Emerald City, and the intricate costumes that pay homage to the beloved characters. Fans of musical theater are particularly thrilled about the casting choices, including Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, each bringing their unique talents to the screen. Grande's portrayal has captured hearts, considering her journey from pop icon to actress, making this role a personal triumph for her. Erivoโs powerful vocals and acting prowess promise to bring depth to the character of Elphaba, shedding light on the untold story of the Wicked Witch of the West. As the story unfolds, viewers are invited to explore themes of friendship, acceptance, and the complexities of good versus evil. This rich narrative allows for deeper character development, which was somewhat limited in stage productions due to time constraints. Screen adaptations often offer the luxury of extended storytelling, ensuring that key emotional moments resonate with the audience. Overall, the energy surrounding the Wicked movie suggests that it is more than just a film; itโs a cultural event that celebrates the legacy of musical theater. For those who are familiar with the Broadway performance, this film serves as a bridge connecting the past with contemporary cinematic artistry. With an engaging mix of nostalgia and fresh interpretation, the Wicked movie is poised to enchant both new viewers and lifelong fans alike.
