I finally tried all 3 of the new prebiotic shirley temple flavors! Some were definitely better than others but I love a Shirley temple so of course I was hyped when all these brands released them!
... Read moreAfter diving into the world of prebiotic Shirley Temples, I realized there's so much more to these trendy drinks than just their delicious, nostalgic flavor! Many of you might be wondering, 'Why prebiotic sodas?' or 'Are they actually good for you?' Well, let me share a bit about my journey and what I've learned beyond just the taste test.
First off, the whole idea behind 'prebiotic' sodas is fascinating. Prebiotics are essentially food for the good bacteria in your gut. By feeding these beneficial microbes, you're potentially supporting better digestion, improved gut health, and even overall wellness. It's a fantastic concept for someone like me who loves a fizzy drink but wants to make healthier choices. That's why I was so excited to try these new takes on the classic Shirley Temple.
When I started my 'Rating Prebiotic Shirley Temples' mission, I wasn't just looking for taste. I also kept in mind the unique approaches each brand takes. Take Olipop, for instance. Their brand is built around combining plant fiber, prebiotics, and botanicals to support digestive health. While I rated their Shirley Temple flavor a 3/10 because it tasted least like a traditional Shirley Temple and had a heavy, almost vanilla-like undertone, it's important to remember their primary goal is gut support. If you're looking for a genuinely functional soda and don't mind a departure from the classic taste, Olipop might still be for you. Checking the Olipop Shirley Temple nutrition label often reveals a good amount of fiber, which is a huge plus.
Then there's Poppi, which has gained a lot of traction for its apple cider vinegar (ACV) base. ACV itself is known for various health benefits, and Poppi integrates it seamlessly into their flavors. My experience with the Poppi Shirley Temple was much better, giving it a 7/10. I noted it was heavy on cherry and had less sugar, which aligns with their brand's focus on healthier alternatives. The ACV wasn't overpowering, which is a common concern for many. It felt like a genuinely good option for a lighter, gut-friendly soda that still captured the essence of the drink. When considering the Poppi Shirley Temple prebiotic soda, it's great to see how they balance flavor with functional ingredients.
And finally, my absolute favorite, the Bloom Pop Shirley Temple (based on the OCR identifying a 'Bloom Pop Shirley Temple can'). This one truly surprised me with a perfect 10/10! It tasted most like a classic Shirley Temple and was simply delicious. Bloom Nutrition is generally known for its high-quality greens and gut-health supplements, so it makes sense they'd nail a functional drink that also tastes fantastic. While I didn't deep-dive into the specific Bloom Pop Shirley Temple nutrition facts on the spot, the experience alone made me a big fan.
Beyond the taste, here are a few things I now consider when choosing my next prebiotic soda:
Sugar Content: Even 'healthier' sodas can have varying sugar levels. Always check the nutrition label if that's a concern for you.
Fiber Content: A good prebiotic soda should ideally offer a decent amount of dietary fiber to feed those gut microbes.
Artificial vs. Natural Sweeteners: This is a personal preference, but I lean towards natural options when possible.
Specific Prebiotic Ingredients: What kind of prebiotics are they using? Chicory root, inulin, and other plant fibers are common.
These shirley temple cans are definitely a game-changer for me. It's exciting to see brands innovate in the beverage space, offering options that are both enjoyable and potentially beneficial for our health. So, next time you're craving a Shirley Temple, consider grabbing one of these prebiotic versions. You might just find a new favorite that also gives your gut a little love!
I feel like Olipop tends to have a unique take on their drinks. I had the Vintage Cola and the Shirley Temple, neither of them tasted like cola or a Shirley Temple, but they were good! I feel like they would do even better if they came up with new names for some of their flavors
