Momo’s Psychic Hand Tutorial
How I made Momo’s psychic hand for my cosplay at Anime NYC! I’m sure it’s much easier if you know how to sew, but if you’re like me, hot glue works!
Hey fellow cosplayers! So many of you asked about my Momo psychic hand from Anime NYC, and I'm so excited to finally share more details on how I brought it to life. When I first decided to cosplay Momo from Dandadan, I knew the psychic hand was the centerpiece, but I’m definitely not a sewing wizard! This tutorial is for anyone who, like me, prefers the magic of hot glue. First things first, getting that iconic glowing turquoise look was crucial. I spent a while searching for the perfect fabric. What worked wonders for me was an iridescent turquoise fabric. It catches the light beautifully, mimicking that ethereal glow Momo's hand has in the manga and anime. I bought a few yards, knowing I'd need plenty for layering. For the structure, a 9-gauge wire was my secret weapon. It's sturdy enough to hold its shape but still pliable enough to bend into the distinct hand gesture. I started by sketching out the hand shape on paper, then carefully bent the wire to match, creating the fingers and palm. Don't worry if it's not perfect on the first try; wire is forgiving! I even added a small loop or extension at the base to serve as a handle for stability. Once the wire frame was ready, it was hot glue time! This is where patience comes in. I cut the iridescent fabric into various shapes and strips, starting with larger pieces to cover the main structure, then smaller ones for the fingers. My technique involved wrapping the fabric around the wire frame, securing it with hot glue. The key here is layering. Don't just stick one layer; build it up. The more layers of that shimmery fabric you add, especially around the edges and prominent areas, the more vibrant and 'glowing' the hand appears. This layering also adds a fantastic sense of depth and volume, just like Momo’s actual psychic ability. A little tip from my experience: when you're gluing, make sure the fabric is taut but not stretched so thin that it loses its iridescence. And apply glue in small sections to avoid big, messy clumps. I also found that adding a second, slightly darker layer of turquoise fabric underneath in some areas helped to create a gradient effect, making the lighter top layers pop even more. After the main hand was formed, I focused on refining the edges and adding any extra details. I used a smaller gauge wire wrapped in fabric for the 'energy lines' that sometimes emanate from her hand. For attaching it to my arm, I simply created a sturdy fabric cuff that slipped over my forearm, and I hot-glued the base of the wire hand securely to that. It made it easy to wear and pose with at Anime NYC without worrying about it falling off. Overall, this project took me about two evenings of dedicated work, and the materials cost under $50. It was incredibly rewarding to see it come to life, and the reactions at the con were priceless! If I can do it with just hot glue, you absolutely can too. Happy crafting, and good luck bringing your own Momo psychic hand to reality!

This is so cool it reminded me of these. Btw, they need to make giant ones.
