“I Get To”

🔅Lately, I’ve been catching myself saying “I have to” about everything…

•I have to go to work.

•I have to do the dishes.

•I have to do laundry.

•I have to work out.

🔅I caught myself saying it again today, ‘’I have to,’’ and immediately felt the negative mindset behind it. I wasn’t about that. So I thought… what if I changed the language?

•I don’t have to go to work.

I 𝐠𝐞𝐭 to go to work — because I’m blessed with a job. ❣️

•I don’t have to do the dishes.

I 𝐠𝐞𝐭 to — because there was food on my table. 💕

•I don’t have to do laundry.

I 𝐠𝐞𝐭 to — because I have clothes on my back. ❣️

•I don’t have to work out.

I 𝐠𝐞𝐭 to — because my body is still able. 💕

♥️Let me tell you, that small shift changes everything.♥️

🔅Then there’s the bigger stuff…

•A new apartment.

•Starting over.

•Financial stress.

•Learning to love myself again.

•Learning to let someone in again.

•Figuring out who I even am now.

🔅 I’ll be the first to admit, those things feel like setbacks..Like proof I failed somehow..

But I’m learning they’re not punishments they are invitations.💕

🔅 It’s God saying Mel, “You 𝐠𝐞𝐭 to try again.”

•You 𝐠𝐞𝐭 to live lighter.

•You 𝐠𝐞𝐭 to appreciate what you once rushed past.

•You 𝐠𝐞𝐭 a do-over with a better mindset. A mindset that puts Him first. ❣️

🔅Because honestly y’all, without Him, I wouldn’t have made it through the tears, the heartbreak, or the nights where starting over felt impossible.💕

🔅So no… it’s not that we have to start over.

We 𝐠𝐞𝐭 to start again. ❣️

𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫:

God, thank You for the things I get to do. Even the ones I complain about. Thank You for second chances, fresh starts, and mercies that meet me EVERY morning. Help me see my life through gratitude instead of frustration, and remind me that starting over with You is never a loss. 💕 Amen.

❣️I hope this helps you the way it has helped me❣️

... Read moreChanging my perspective from "I have to" to "I get to" has profoundly shifted how I approach daily life and challenges. It starts with simple, everyday tasks — recognizing that going to work means I am fortunate enough to have a job, doing laundry means I have clothes to wear, or washing dishes means there is food to enjoy. This mindset encourages gratitude and appreciation, even for the routine, and helps reduce the burden of chores that can sometimes feel tedious or overwhelming. But the real depth of this mindset shift comes through when facing bigger life transitions — like moving to a new apartment, starting over after setbacks, or dealing with financial stress. Instead of feeling defeated or punished, seeing these moments as "invitations" to grow and try again opens up new possibilities for healing and progress. It’s about embracing the fresh start as a gift, not a failure. In my experience, this outlook is deeply intertwined with my faith and reliance on God’s mercies that are new every morning, echoing the hopeful verse from Lamentations 3:22-23. Trusting that each day brings renewed loyalty and kindness helps me move forward with peace and optimism. Facing hardships is less daunting when I remind myself that I "get to" live, learn, and improve, supported by spiritual encouragement. Ultimately, this shift teaches us to live lighter, appreciate what once felt like obstacles, and recognize the blessings in each day — even the ones we complain about. It transforms frustration into thankfulness and helps me embrace life’s ups and downs with grace. If you’re feeling weighed down by "have to’s," try replacing them with "get to’s." It’s a simple language change that can create profound personal change and foster a joyful, resilient mindset.
