Things I Thought Were Normal
• Being exhausted all the time
• Fixing everything for everyone
• Apologizing for existing
• Thinking rest had to be earned
Turns out… no.
For a long time, I believed that being exhausted all the time was just a normal part of life. I thought fatigue meant I was working hard and that pushing through was a sign of strength. But eventually, I realized that this constant tiredness was draining my spirit and impacting my happiness. One of the hardest lessons I learned was that fixing everything for everyone else doesn’t have to be my responsibility. I used to apologize for just being myself, feeling guilty for taking up space or needing help. I thought rest was a luxury that had to be earned through endless productivity, but now I understand that rest is fundamental to well-being—not a reward for a busy life. Making a 'soft reset' in how I approached life helped me prioritize healing over hustle. It’s okay to say no, to set boundaries, and to preserve your energy. Self-care isn’t selfish; it’s necessary. I started embracing moments of rest without guilt and recognized that my worth isn’t tied to how much I do but simply who I am. For women, especially over 50, who might have spent decades putting others first, this realization can be transformative. Healing is an ongoing process, and by unlearning these exhausting habits, we open the door to a more balanced, joyful life. Feel empowered to honor your needs, be gentle with yourself, and remember that healing is a personal journey worth embracing.
