My Bariatric Must Haves

As someone who had a Gastric Sleeve on February 5th 2024, I am certain items that help me everyday!

🎃DISCLAIMER🎃 Make sure you talk to your surgeon and dietitians to make sure that supplements work for you!

🌻Multi Vitamins: It depends on person to person on what vitamins work best. For me, I have tried the chewable vitamins and I could not take them with out getting sick. When I found ProCare, it was the best thing I could have found. the only con is you have to take separate calcium supplements.

🌻Calcium Chews: I love the Barilife calcium chews. I have the watermelon flavor and it’s like having a candy three times a day!

🌻Oikos Pro Greek Yogurt: I have a hard time some days to get my protein in. When I want a sweet snack at the end of the day I will add fruit and peanut to a bowl with the yogurt!

🌻Barebells: The BEST tasting protein bars I have ever tasted. It has the best texture and I truly believe if you try it you will love it

🌻Water bottles: It is sometimes hard to get my water intake in everyday. Having different water bottle keeps me motivated on drinking my water and I will tell myself if you keep up with your intake for a week you can get another water bottle.

🌻Vitamin case: I love this case, each day is their own little case which helps me stay accountable and have it on me at all times during the day.

... Read moreEmbarking on a bariatric journey, especially after gastric sleeve surgery, means a whole new approach to nutrition and daily habits. Beyond the initial recovery, staying consistent with your essential vitamins and protein intake is absolutely crucial for long-term health and success. I've learned that having the right tools and knowing how to use them effectively makes all the difference. Let's dive deeper into why specific supplements, like bariatric-specific multivitamins and calcium, are non-negotiable. While I found ProCare Bariatric Multivitamins to be perfect for me (after struggling with other chewables), it's vital to discuss options with your surgeon and dietitian. Many bariatric patients also find Barilife chewable multivitamins to be an excellent choice due to their taste and ease of absorption. Regardless of the brand, specialized bariatric vitamins are formulated to compensate for the reduced absorption capabilities post-surgery, preventing deficiencies that can lead to serious health issues. Calcium chews, like the Barilife Bari Bursts calcium chews I adore, are equally important for bone health, and finding a flavor you genuinely enjoy can turn a chore into a treat. Consistency is key with these supplements, and that's where practical items like a daily vitamin organizer case become invaluable. Mine has individual compartments for each day, making it easy to carry my vitamins with me and stay on track, even on busy days. It’s a small thing, but it makes a huge difference in remembering to take everything. Beyond vitamins, maintaining adequate protein and hydration are daily battles that can be won with the right strategies. For protein, Oikos Pro Greek yogurt has been a lifesaver, especially when I need a quick boost or a satisfying snack. Pairing it with fruit or a tiny bit of peanut butter makes it feel like a dessert. And Barebells Chocolate Dough protein bars? They truly are a game-changer for protein bars – great taste and texture that actually make you look forward to your protein intake. When it comes to hydration, I've found that having a variety of water bottles helps keep me motivated. It sounds simple, but switching between a sleek black bottle and an olive green one can sometimes trick my brain into drinking more. Setting alarms or using a water tracking app can also be incredibly helpful to ensure you're hitting your daily targets, especially since dehydration is a common challenge for bariatric patients. Finally, while the focus is often on physical items, don't underestimate the power of support and tracking tools. Many bariatric patients benefit from using various apps to monitor their food intake, water consumption, and supplement adherence. These digital tools can act as your personal accountability partner, helping you visualize your progress and identify areas where you might need to adjust. Joining online forums or support groups can also provide immense practical advice and emotional encouragement, making your journey feel less isolating. Remember, every item and strategy you adopt is a step towards a healthier, more vibrant you!
