My little secret is finding that sweet spot between indulging in my favorite flavors – especially my beloved Korean dishes – and still feeling good in my skin. It’s not about strict diets for me, but more about mindful choices. Talking about mindful choices, one of the biggest game-changers for me has been getting into 'prep it up' healthy meals. No, I don't mean spending an entire Sunday cooking for the week, unless I'm feeling super motivated! My version of meal prep is simpler. It's about having healthy staples ready to go. Think roasted veggies I can add to anything, pre-cooked quinoa, or a big batch of soup. This way, when those cravings hit, I have nutritious options at my fingertips instead of reaching for something less ideal. For Korean food, this might mean having kimchi ready, or making a big batch of seasoned tofu or marinated chicken that can be quickly stir-fried with fresh greens. It really helps me enjoy my food without going 'over the top,' as I mentioned before. When I'm out and about, especially trying to find a good 'health food restaurant' or just a place with balanced options, I've developed a few go-to strategies. I look for places that emphasize fresh, local ingredients – places that make you feel good after you eat, not sluggish. In places like my lovely Jesup, sometimes it takes a bit of exploring to find those hidden gems, but they are often there if you look beyond the usual. I might check online reviews specifically mentioning 'fresh' or 'healthy options,' or just pop into local cafes that seem to have a focus on wholesome ingredients. It’s all part of the adventure! And yes, my weakness is definitely Korean food! But even with something as delicious as Korean BBQ or a hearty bibimbap, there are ways to keep it figure-friendly. I load up on the banchan (side dishes) – all those fermented veggies are fantastic for you! I choose grilled meats over fried, and opt for dishes with lots of vegetables. For example, a jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) can be packed with veggies and lean protein. It’s about making smart swaps and appreciating the incredible flavors without feeling deprived.
